Official Daytona 2008 Thread

Maybe you should leave a day early, David. Maybe your school will be closed because of the storm! They are closing down here tomorrow. Really, I bet it will be all fizzled out and gone away up north by Friday. I don't think you have to worry.

I'm going down there Friday. I've got a snake to deliver and a hotel room calling my name!

I think I'm going east coast route to Tampa to avoid some of the rain. I'll get to say Hi to the parents as well. I then cut across the state via I-4 to Daytona.

Yea that would be awesome if they shut down our school for rain on the third day of the new school year! Not going to happen but I wish!! But I am getting out of my last class because we want to get down there before it gets too late! Then I think I will wake up early and go on the beach like you did last year.

After Rich posted that, I had a Jerry Jeff Walker song stuck in my head all night...I want to go home with the armadillo!!

Have you driven I-4 from Tampa through Orlando? They are always working on some part of it, always have it torn up, and seems like there are always delays. We will be going that way too, but I would avoid it if I was able to. By the time you are in Florida, the bad weather will probably have met you further north, and you might be through it already.

Yeah...I hate I-4 but what can you do?

My parents live in Tampa so I'll probably spend Thursday night there anyway so going I-4 on Friday can't be all that bad....I'll just have to plan for delays. With the storm in east GA/SC on Thurs morning I think I'll be a little better going to ATL and then down I-75 then going west and doing I-95. :shrugs:

Well hopefully this will fizzle out as Naci said.We should be in Daytona Friday.Spend the day on the beach with our kids IF it's nice. Then we've got to pick my dad up from the airport friday night so hopefully there wont be in delays in his flight.

Here's the latest projected path:

Daytona is just above that little bump on the east coast. SO we're looking at a direct hit from a thunderstorm. haha.

Ok Robbie, stop mocking Fay before we're stuck with her all weekend or something...

Well, she's already slowed down quite a bit, so the "eye's" not even supposed to hit here until tomorrow morning. We just got hit with the first squall, and I must say, not very impressive *knock on lots and lots and lots of wood*.

Yeah, but having to lug all that stuff into the show for setup during a driving rain is not going to be much fun.........

Especially since there will be only one entrance open this year, due to the expansion of the facility. It was already crowded enough back when there were several entrances to load in from.

How'd you fare in the storm, Kathy? My parents live in Naples and they said their yard is under about 5 inches of water and is littered with branches and palm fronds.

On a side note, Daytona is fairing quite nicely so far. I'll keep you guys updated if something happens from the "insider" standpoint. lol. I figure I live right here, so I might as well!
