Sunkissed, are there 2 types? Please post pics of yours!

So question why are you keeping star gazers. I thought we were trying to destroy that trait.

Some breeders keep them to test out their Sunkisseds, and really any other snake, to see if they are hidden het carriers. Once proven to not be carriers, they can say their stock is star-gazer free.

Then Susan responded for me...

Exactly Susan... Regardless of what people may think of me keeping my Stargazer girls, they are souly for testing purposes and unless someone is close to me and very convincing, none of the offspring will every be available to anyone but the kings and milks around here..

Oh ok that makes alot of sense. I was just curious. This trait commonly follows the sunkist gene right or wrong.

And besides, if the owner is ethical enough NOT to breed them, they don't seem to suffer so could be pets. I would never sell one for fear it would get bred (assuming (1) I ever persuade snakes to hook up (2) I manage to get eggs (3) they hatch and (4) I end up with any stargazers) but I can see keeping one or two as pets. Susan's 2 are BEAUTIFUL! If I hatched a snake that pretty I'd have a hard time feeding it off to a king. I think I'd just buy another tub & let it live out its life in peace.

My Stargazer girls here, are part of the colony.. At this point, I would not dispose of them, simply because people think it might be ethically wrong to keep them.. I am not in this hobby for money, although it would be nice to actually break even one year and yes the few sales I do get, barely make an impact on feeding and huasbandtry costs over the year..

The soul intent of getting these animals was to prove out the Sunkissed Male I got years ago on whether or not he is a carrier.. My intent is not to distribute the genetics around.. Heavens knows I have enough I breed around here to create money via wholesale without including Stargazing genetics in the bundle..

You were within reason to question why I have these animals, I just hope you understand I am trying my best to find out or not a line is clear.. I just know what I want to produce and that really has nothing to do with what the community might see my ethics as or as not..

Tim, I don't know why but I knew the reason you kept those girls all along. Makes perfect sense to me!~

Actually to me, yours looks like the ones Beth and Tim posted, they look a lot brighter because there's little contrast between the saddles and ground color. I really like that bright orange!

That kind of came out wrong . . . early morning typing ~LOL~ I meant all the ones people had posted that DIDN'T look like Gus ~grins~ Amazing how much saddle pattern they retained. I am used to Hadyn's being almost patternless

This one is so amazing looking. So much orange. What a beautiful snake.

Thank you, both of you. I really love his color. He is also ph pewter, so I am excited to breed sunkissed pewters eventually.

I had forgotten about Stargazer in the sunkissed line. Hopefully Hadyn isn't a carrier. I guess I could breed a daughter back to him at some point to check, but that is not a guarantee. . . . hmmmm

I absolutely love the variability in the sunkissed, especially when you combine them with other morphs. I am always attracted to the snakes with funky patterns ~LOL~

Someone mentioned their sunkissed are aggressive feeders. Hadyn is the complete opposite. He WILL NOT feed with you watching ~LOL~ He also hates to feed in a bin. So I put a f/t in a paper towel roll, set it in his cage, and walk away for the evening. He always eats it by the morning :)

Sweet Nicole I said that mine are aggressive eaters. They are popping out of there bins when I open them after I feed a few other snakes. I guess they just know its coming lol.

TandJ like I said I understand that point now. Its a really good idea to use them to prove that others are not carriers.

Can anyone answer me on this though.

Is it true or false that the stargazer trait is found mostly in the sunkist gene.

Star Gazing is a totally separate gene that was first observed in Sunkissed animals. At this point in time it is most likely spread throughout the gene pool.

^ actually you are right about that. I'm sure many people did not test breed early enough on with stargazers to be sure that their stock was free of it. I originally feared getting into Sunkisseds because of this. In fact, I think it was researching about it, I found this forum couple years ago. Even tho I now know the line(s) were identified, no doubt this gene is in ppl's collection unknown.
Sorry to go off track, this needs be in own thread. I'll start one cuz I still have interest in it and post a link.

I've seen a good bit of variation with the sunkisseds. I really like the head patterning in most. That bright orange one posted is cool for the color and border and like to see more of that look in SK :D

I hope Rya prove to have the Sunkissed gene..That would be pretty cool!
I have a few bitey snakes that just don't seem get that no matter what..I'm still gonna love them!..haha..But Gus is a GREAT guy!...
Yeah. There is no reason to pass up on such a great guy at a great price at breeding age..I'm mean really?..LOL...:) But I'm happy for you..
Looking forward to seeing your plans for him.
:crazy02:
take care

Well, I think my first plans for him involve introducing him to my caramel motley het amel girl Carmen. She always double clutches and does not seem to be gravid this season, as I put her in with a young virgin male who did not seem to notice how stunningly beautiful she is!

MY sunkissed male, about 9 months ago, he is bit brighter now.

IMG_0349.jpg

He's' most probably an '08, the seller was selling him for a friend and did not know much about him, he said he's an '08 or an '07. Lengthwise I though he was closer to being an '08, though today he has already grown into adult size...

The other one is an ultra anery male.
