The Brecon Beacons

Hey everyone

Me and my Dad decided to take a trip to the Brecon Beacons today. They're a mountain range in mid/south Wales and part of a large national park. It was about a 45 minute drive from where I live to get there (so I still consider that local Jen (shed'n my skin)) :grin01: I guess this marks the start of our continuing theme.

We climbed to the summit of Pen y Fan (tallest mountain in south Wales at 2,907 ft). It's also the most dangerous mountain in Wales, due to a narrow walkway and rapidly changing conditions. It was about -5 degrees celcius at the summit, and we were also subjected to 60 mph winds. Thankfully, one side of the summit was sheltered by rock formations.

Next week I'll post some updated pictures that I took with my Dad's camera. He had loads of lenses with him (including an 11 - 18mm wide-angle, a 400mm telephoto, and a 50mm macro), so I got to play with those, but my card reader wouldn't take his card since it was too big for the slot, so he's going to send me a CD.

So, here they are, enjoy and thanks for looking.

All the best

David

The picture of me (I'm holding his camera) was taken by my Dad, at the first peak of Pen y Fan.

Amazing pics! My favorite is the bird.

Thanks Nanci! That was taken with my 18 - 55mm kit lens, and it was a 'oh crap', turn and shoot moment. I didn't plan it but it actually turned out okay lol.

I like the one looking up into the trees. Of course, I also have a "thing" for waterfalls, even if they are little ones!

I showed the photos to Bill, since he is the photographer (you would NOT want to see my photos, lol!). He said they show a lot of promise and that you seem to have a good eye for it. He was surprised you are only 16.

Thank you both very much!

Kathy, I'm glad you and Bill liked them! I really appreciate that, I've never wanted to go in to photography, I just enjoy doing it as something on the side. When I go to university I plan on studying zoology, so maybe I can tie photography in with that later down the line. Oh and I too like that picture, the forest that I took it in was huge. Upon our return from the summit, I took my Dad's camera (because he has better lenses than me) :grin01: and got some really nice macro shots. When his CD arrives I'll be sure to post them.

Wade, in the Spring and Summer there are a lot of fish in there, and of course further downstream as it widens. I didn't see much in the way of wildlife today; too cold and windy. I saw quite a few different birds, sheep, ponies and some roadkill (poor little fox :()

Guess it's my turn again huh David? I guess I will have to look into locations for my next hike now! I like the one looking up at the trees and the rock with the layers. The water ones are also cool. Mike snakewispera snr. is right you are going to have at least one visitor invading Wales if you keep posting cool pics like these (and if money for plane ticket is found) Thanks for sharing the great pics!

And thank you for the compliments! :) I'm glad you like them. Oh and yes, it is your turn. It'd be a pleasure to have you in Wales, drop me a line if you ever visit.

All the best

David

Wow Looks like you had a great day out and took some stunning photos too!

That shot with the trees would make an excellent desktop wallpaper too!

In my humble opinion, I think you should continue to polish your photographic skills, as you've definitely got a knack for it.

Thanks for sharing,

Thank you very much Susie! No, I won't give up on it, I'll continue to take shots and practice. I'm going to ask for a macro lens for my birthday so that should be fun. :)

Some nice pictures - Don't worry though, I won't be running over anytime soon! I have my own little wonder in my back yard :)
