even though im not registered, i put in indipendent because im a conservitive, and i didn't put in republican because there are to many rhino's who call themselves republicans.

I'm probably somewhere in the Democrat/Libertarian/Independent area. Though I went with independent, because I think that's a good way to be. I don't like labels.

I did the same for the same reason. I come from Norway which has a multiparty system. There are several parties representing a plethora of interests and I feel much more comfortable identifying as an affiliate of my party there because the parties aren't forced to represent one half of the country. Instead parties can focus on fewer issues and actually get stuff done. In the states each party will inevitably have to represent huge portions of the population and of course the system is weakened when each party is catering to so many different people with so many confliction interests.

Voting independent here too. I hope it doesn't mess things up that both conservatives and liberals are putting independent.
I don't need a poll to tell me the majority of members of this forum lean to the right though. At least it sure feels that way.

I don't really associate myself with one party or another for lots of reasons, including agreeing with different sides on different issues and not wanting to get involved with how viciously partisan many people are in recent times, so I put independent.

I am the party of EMANON!!! I have republican, libertarian, I don't Care-ian, and I am a firm believer in the party of INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY!!!

I am an NRA supporting, fiscally disciplined, socially liberal mash up...but I am registered as "No Party Affiliation" because obviously my um personal views don't fall clearly into any one party.

I'm registered as an Independent but I think I might actually be considered a Libertarian? Socially liberal, fiscally conservative.

I am similar to Nellie & Kate, but I put down Libertarian because if I have to pick a party that's the closest.

I have myself down as Independent, though, I have only voted Democrat in the past. I don't like to be tied down to either affiliation, but the best of the two, in my opinion, has been the Democratic party (at least since I've been eligible to vote). And I'm a Democratic voter, yet technically independent, I still feel that I lean a little towards the libertarian side of the spectrum.

I consider myself an Independent in thought, but I'm a registered Democrat because I'm very liberal on social issues and I like to vote in their primary. I keep meaning to switch to Independent, but I always forget. I nearly always vote for the Democratic candidate anyway.

I find it interesting how people describe themselves and then the party they chose to be affiliated with. You do realize that calling yourself Independent does not make you independent? Libertarian Democrats are like the 4th of July in England. It doesn't happen.

I was surprised that Beth thought the group would lean to the right. I would have guessed left. The majority didn't understand the question.

Well, it works for me so I'm sticking with it. Fortunately, I'm secure enough in my own identity and beliefs that I don't need them validated by others. I'll let you know if I get to that point, though. I think it was a cool idea to have a thread that was basically a poll about political affiliations, but I guess I was foolish to think it could be achieved without people sniping at one another. It's too bad, could have a been a productive and enlightening discussion. Cheers.

I am registered republican so that is what I put down. I have only voted republican in the past, but when I see something that I agree with more come along, I will vote for that...

Libertarian Democrats are like the 4th of July in England. It doesn't happen.

This is why I find labels to be stupid.

I don't agree with everything democrat or liberal, i don't agree with everything republican or conservative, I don't agree with everything libertarian, I don't agree with everything green, I don't agree with everything anything. I think all politicians are full of hogwash, and I've become jaded when it comes to the political system.

'Libertarian Democrats' might not happen...but there are people who might agree with some democrat ideas (and maybe oppose the libertarian viewpoint), while at the same time agreeing with some libertarian ideas (and opposing the democrat viewpoint). This is why I myself do not say that I am a 'Libertarian Democrat'...but rather that for most issues my ideas are generally close to either the democrat view, or the libertarian view. And then there are some ideas that I might even have a republican view.

Too often to me it seems that democrats uphold the democratic viewpoints simply because they call themself a democrat and so feel they need to support "their party". And if someone who calls themself a democrat goes against a democratic ideal on a certain issue, then "they are not a true democrat", or so says the masses. Same with the republican party.

I don't need labels to confine my beliefs to, and that is why I consider myself independent. I will make my own choice, it just so happens that in many circumstances my ideals, depending on the issue, generally fall along either democratic lines, or libertarian lines....with the rare swing to the republican side. And no one can tell me I'm wrong.
