I think it was a cool idea to have a thread that was basically a poll about political affiliations, but I guess I was foolish to think it could be achieved without people sniping at one another. It's too bad, could have a been a productive and enlightening discussion. Cheers.

It's still a cool idea, it is unfortunate some people quit so easily.

This is why I find labels to be stupid.

I don't need labels to confine my beliefs to, and that is why I consider myself independent. I will make my own choice,

Excellent answer, I feel the same way. Vote for what you think is right, to hell with the party, which ever party. But make an educated decision, don't let others make it for you.

I find it interesting how people describe themselves and then the party they chose to be affiliated with. You do realize that calling yourself Independent does not make you independent? Libertarian Democrats are like the 4th of July in England. It doesn't happen.

I was surprised that Beth thought the group would lean to the right. I would have guessed left. The majority didn't understand the question.

Oh, I don't know if it's quite that black and white, Wade. Kathy Love has accused me of having libertarian views more than once, but practically speaking, I'm a Democrat, because that's the way I usually vote. So I ticked Democrat.

Maybe the majority don't lean right. Maybe the right just lean harder. ;)

I took it again.

I took both Kathy's test and Nellie's test and I scored about the same on both of them. Crap, I didn't like the answer I got. I don't know how I feel about that.

I voted independent. I tend to lean liberal for most things, but don't always vote Democratic and frequently feel that I'm voting against the other candidate and not for one candidate.

I one has to be careful labeling themselves with a party, it gets easy to become attached to the party and start to ignore or not notice if they start doing things that are against your beliefs.

"...frequently feel that I'm voting against the other candidate and not for one candidate..."

It is difficult to remember the times I DIDN'T feel that way!

Really? Are you sure that you and I are on the same forum?

Are you going to tell us how you scored or was it too distressing?

I was thinking more about my political beliefs and in addition to my general philosophies, there are a couple issues that are REALLY important to me. So important to me that I would not ever vote for a candidate who was on the other side of said issue. A political litmus test as it is often described. I am going to refrain from listing the issues because I do not want to end up in a political discussion over the internet. But I do wonder if anyone else has their own candidate litmus test?

I took Dinah's test and didn't get the results I was expecting. I figured I would be slightly right. I voted Independent in the poll though...

Here is another quiz, it isn't as short as Kathy's but it is another good one. I really like the way both Kathy's quiz and this one provide scores on a grid, I think it is helpful to see it in that form.
Dinah, very interesting. I scored libertarian on both. Almost exactly where Tsst scored on libertarian on Kathy's quiz. But the second one...hmmm...I don't know. My red dot coincides almost exactly with Gandhi's red dot.

EDIT : Here are my numbers.
Economic Left/Right: -5.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.28

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -3.12
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.10

I guess I'm semi-close to Gandhi (exactly four rows down from Airenlow).
