Looking at the pictures and seeing the Motley pattern, I think it is just a funky motley/stripe pattern. Does he have any belly checkers at all?

A snake is either Tessera or it is not; it is not about 'how much Tessera is it'. I think you have not been taught yet how Mendelian genetic heritage works

I have to add; Tessera is dominant, this means that when a snake is hetrozyguous for Tessera, it looks like a Tessera. So, since both parents are clearly not Tessera, the are not carrying the gene and cannot pass it to their offspring.

Perhaps the Upper Keys influence is causing all that side pattern? The parents definitely have more side pattern than what I have come to think of as characteristic of Motley.

Or what about, as has been suggested by others, Anery Terrazzo? Seems kind of like a long shot, but maybe not as much considering Keys snakes are involved. Terrazzo appears to have been totally buried and overlooked in the wake of the Tessera.

Hrm, not so sure about that because Trundlefart refers to Motley/Stripes, and I don't believe there is a Stripe gene involved here. Even though it looks like a perfectly Pin Striped Mot, neither of the parents were listed as het Stripe. I suppose it's possible though, just being the devils advocate. :smash:

It refers to motley/stripe or WHATEVER and if I never hear the term again it will be too soon. Not a fan.

I have come to believe the hatchling is a nice pinstripe motley with an unusual amount of side pattern left.

I too think it could just be a funky pinstripe motley. Neither parent is a Tessera.. And as others have stated, tessera is a dominant gene.. One parent would have to be a tessera to produce one.

...sigh, like this? The "Mystery Babies" siblings... 1st three of 5 eggs that just suddenly went bad RIGHT when they are suppose to be hatching... sigh~! Just not meant to be....

Yeah, heat spikes and other environmental factors can cause such abnormalities as that, and sometimes it just happens no matter what. Sorry for all of your losses, but hopefully that little guy will make it.

I'd also like to add - someone indicated earlier that the pattern could have been due to a heat spike, and I wholeheartedly disagree. Though mutations can occur, they're are not going to be in the form of pretty new colors. The type of mutations from heat would be more along the lines of the recently posted photos.

Even the Albino, it's way way ghosty kinda but it's there... can't get over how that one and the other little one look like if we had just "helped" a tad a week ago, they would be alive and shedding by now... The kinker one really threw me though... (the smaller anery was perfect until his peach pit yolk fell away with his tail section upon moving him from the egg...)

But Seriously...? I really think I'm gonna run an ad for the parents on our local "Radio Seek, Sell & Swap Shop"... I OBVIOUSLY was just never meant to breed Corns... period! lol Whether it was a "temp spike" I missed, or over misting the sphag, what ever... I am sure someone else could have had MUCH better results from these two ... especially in THREE YEARS! lol & sigh!

BTW... In the place "Sally" was..? We now have a GORGEOUS "WC" rattler Your Dad caught 2 days ago!, he says around 2 yrs or more, 7 buttons and he's in the blue now, being VERY VERY cool and calm compared to the rattlers I grew up with in the Ocheco's! LOL HE's seriously GORGEOUS!

BTW #2 - LOVE YOU GUYS... how goes the "settling in" back here going? We thought we woulda heard back from you by now..? (Yeah your Pops says.."Hint Hint" dry Curtis Smile! LOL And says to tell you he loves ya!

Asking for up-dated pics of which... the going on 6 week old "ONE AND ONLY" beauty that Somehow got his tiny but out off his egg when his twin died next to him. still isn't feeding, waiting a widely recomended 7 to 10 days before next attempt. Two of three more days I beleive, so won't be taking any pics of him until then (ya know, minimum of stress and all)

Or pics of the WC Rattle snake Hubby brought home a couple days ago? The people here have already thrown 2 live "SMALL" rattlers on the huge outdoor grill and ran over two REALLY pretty garter snakes while they were mating in the parking lot last year. So we do NOT let wild snakes stay in the vicinety. Last year Sean found and saved a tiny little rattler, wouldn't eat in captivity, so released him out of "Steak Night BBQ" range. This new one is a couple feet long, 7 buttons...and GORGEOUS! (along with appears to be just going into the blue)...

Or recent pics of the parents of our little preemie and dies that produced all these amazing patterns...? When the suns right today I will get a new pic of our now, QUITE HEALTHY AND BIG Sire, "OB" - He's in his outdoor summer home with ROOM to roam... Lil Momma though I wont be able to get until Sean has time to move the plant off her Viv to feed her.

The Dam of which, known to be a double clutcher every year, .......sigh, is noticebly gravid now with at least three to four pretty easy to see egg impresions already, about half way down her tiny little body. Were going to offer her a mouse today... she will not eat a mouse usually as laying time gets closer, and will even stop taking fuzzies with in 3 to 5 days of laying.

Been so busy with ya know, the preemie, Sean's job, me sick, my heavy meds....ya know, just living life...LOL Well while Sean was getting the dies out of their eggs, he asked isn't Lil Momma laying about now? I answered "oh yeah, both years we have the second clutch in the incubator during the heat of July, So at least this year it looks like even SHE has had enough of the smell of Death... No double! (And felt genuinely relieved)...Until I saw her out of her hide and cruising the viv yesterday... I nearly cried seeing her BULGE, and recalled that last two years she laid the first clutch in Mar... This year it was May............... seriously... not AGAIN! please please is all I could think.
I soon informed Sean of my mistake, he saw her condition, but he's being so positive about this clutch "Hey Honey...1st clotch this year we got our 1st "pipper" that stold the show with his beauty, You saw those dies, I bet in a few months, we'll be pulling our hair out with 4 or even 6 live babies to feed and care for! That look just like this batch" So, I'm trying to stay positive too.
