WIR no longer needed?

So, I'm surmising from the lack of response to my request for new WIR authors (I had one, and I believe I need another one now to.), and the lack of upheaval over the past two weeks not getting posted, that the WIR has gone the way of the dinosaur? Noone interested in it any longer? :shrugs:

That's fine with me, I guess, as it would eliminate one volunteer responsibility I have in the world.

I am only speaking for myself but I enjoy the WIR. I wish I had the time to contribute as a writer but I unfortunately do not.

I really enjoy reading it, too. I thought of volunteering, but now is just NOT a good time (not to mention the fact that I have no experience and very little knowledge in this area). Mom will be in the hospital for several more weeks, and I spend a lot of my time up there. I just don't have the energy--mental or physical--to take on any new responsibilities at this time. I hope someone will be able to, though.

I didn't even see that thread. I'll go up from being on the sub list if you want. I know there was a few times when someone needed me to fill in but my work schedule is crazy and I wouldn't see the message till it was too late. But if I know in advance its no big deal for me to do it.

I agree, it's a great thing. I just think that with 19,000+ members that I'd get more than 1 person to volunteer to cover 1 week every 4. :shrugs:

Jess, I'm not trying to guilt anyone into becoming a "full time" contributor. I just know that in the past when a WIR wasn't covered there was more than a 5 post thread about it missing. You'd have thought the world was ending!!

I'm legitimately wondering if the WIR has run its course. I haven't run my course with helping organize it.

I enjoy the WIR. And I'd volunteer to be a full time contributor if I could. But I'm entering the last year of my PhD and am just to darned busy to be able to able to donate the time required on a regular basis. I can handle being a "back up" every once in a while. So I'd hate to see it go as there's always a tone of stuff that I miss.

However, if it did disappear, I'd miss it, but I wouldn't get anything less from this site than I do now.

I to absolutely love the WIR and love doing it, but as with Irish Eyes my father is in the Coronary Unit of the hospital 8 hrs away round trip and my mother has had one knee replacement and is awaiting a second, so they really are relying on me right now as my brother lives approx 5-6 days drive away.

So between working my daycare and looking after my household with a husband who is away 3 weeks a month and now traveling often to help care for my parents and my grandmother, I just thought I was not being responsible by asking alternates to cover me 3 times in a short while. If there are more authors now then maybe I could still help out as my turn would not come up so fast.

Just my thoughts.

Yeah, what Katie said.. Time and computer know how are
not here..
I have posted when I miss the WIR, I understand the commitment
our writers make to do it.
I for one really do appreciate those that take the time to update us!

Sorry Brent, but one volunteer job on this forum is enough for me. :crazy02: However, if you want someone to continually complain when the WIR is missing, I'll be glad to (apparently, I don't ever get tired of voicing my dissatisfaction in things, or so my co-workers keep saying). I just figured everyone knew it wasn't there...again...so kept quiet. ;)

I like it! I always find a bunch of things I missed, if you can imagine that...I would miss it if it was gone.

I look forward to it every week. I would volunteer, but I could never do it the justice I believe it deserves. i don't complain about it not being there because well, I have some more important things to complain about! with my wife being deployed right now, I'm cherishing the rare moment of peace I have to myself after putting the little ones to bed...

I just discovered WIK. I gotta say, it's pretty cool. I hope it stays. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to put it together.

I love the WIR, but given that I can't figure out how to upload pictures to this site reliably I don't think I could be a WIR author.

I love the WIR. I've gone back and read some old ones to find interesting threads and pictures. I'd volunteer to help, but no one ever gives a crap about what I do, usually. I might check this out...

I can go either way on it.....sometimes it is fun to read, sometimes it is stuff I already know.

I would have loved to help but I am horribly tangled with tons of other things going on...
'Sides, I am hardly a corn person so...

Is it necessary to be a contributing member to volunteer for the WIR?

I would really miss it. I know I'm a new face here and far from an expert on corn snakes, but I probably have more than enough spare time to help out.

No you do not have to be a contributing member to volunteer to be an author for the WIR.
