Mice Direct Shipment

FYI....it should also be noted that The Mouse Factory may cost a little more...but the mice are consistently cleaner, accurately sized, and vacuum packed. The vacuum packaging alone is a HUGE plus in my opinion....

yah i modeled orders (as identical as i could) at both

rodent pro
Sub-Total: $196.00
S&H: $51.19
Total: $247.19

micedirect
Sub-Total: $184.00
S&H: $123.79
Total: $307.79

shipping must depend on the where to

That is weird. Did you put in the same shipping method for both? Mice Direct has always been cheaper for me.

Oddly...the packaging and bags and writing on the bags all look EXACTLY like the rodentpro order I just received.

So many of these large companies just buy from small companies and package/ship with their own label. Not saying anything wrong with it, but I personally like to know where my critters come from and how they are raised.

I thought about micedirect, but their shipping seemed outrageous to me.

They are in northern GA from what I recall, and they even offer GROUND shipping as an option if you live close enough. UPS and FedEx Ground are both a 1 day point via GROUND from GA to Charlotte NC.

I figured, perfect, for like $10 or less in shipping, I can order some mice. The shipping was almost $40 for GROUND shipping for a single bag of pinky mice.

Their shipping calculator may be automated, and in error as it said my shipment of 1.15lbs of mice would weight 35lbs via GROUND. Here is their shipping table for a single 100count bag of fuzzies which is only $8.

United Parcel Service (35.15lbs, including dry ice weight) (Next Day Air) $107.94
United Parcel Service (35.15lbs, including dry ice weight) (2nd Day Air) $65.25
United Parcel Service (35.15lbs, including dry ice weight) (3 Day Select) $56.15
United Parcel Service (35.15lbs, including dry ice weight) (Ground) $37.68

I don't know about those numbers. 35lbs of dry ice to ship 1lb of frozen mice from GA to NC? I won't be doing any business with them until I get that clarified...perhaps a phone call when I am closer to needing more food.

I spent about $40 on NEXT DAY shipping of 100 mice from the Mouse Factory, and they are in Texas...which is MUCH farther away.

That's because they only use one size box. They want you to fill the box to make your order worth it. I think they're more geared at people really buying in bulk.

Maybe I can find a place to sell the 32lbs of dry ice they are adding to help recover my shipping costs :)

I just bought 450 mice (all sizes) last week and my order was $126, 2-day ground shipping... one heck of a great deal for me ($0.28 each) because my local pet store charges $2 per mouse (all sizes). I would definitely buy from them again!

Yes, I had a similar experience. Mice Direct's prices were cheaper but the shipping was horrendous because they don't offer Grey Hound shipping. I'm also hesitant to order from Mice Direct because I got a bad order once. I ended up using Rodent Pro, they aren't my first or second choice but things are really tight right now. One week after my order, my "second choice" called me saying that they missed me and would match prices. I would have never thought to ask and I really wish they had called me sooner. So if you do have another supplier that you like more, it might not hurt to call them up and ask if they will match prices. The worst they can say is "no".

Feeders

Carol would you mind sharing who is your first and second pick for your feeders and who matched Rodent Pros prices?..............:shrugs:

Well my first pick didn't make the offer, my second pic did. I don't want to share thier name in case it was a special offer. However, I am saying it wouldn't hurt to call and ask. If I had done that, I would have gotten the same price at a more preferable supplier.

For those of you in the southeast...

Mice Direct now has a rep who will be selling at many of the Repticon or other shows. The show prices will be higher than the Internet prices, but still good for small orders. If you want to make a large order, you can get the Internet price with a service fee (maybe $20 or so) because the rep is basically selling on commission and needs to make something for his trouble. But you won't have to pay additional shipping if you arrange ahead of time to pick up at the show.

Check with them for upcoming shows.

I just got 450 various size mice from Mice Direct at the Orlando Repticon for $87 total (including the $20 service fee). I thought that was a great deal! The smallest pinkies were only $.06 each; unbelievable. Everything seemed to be packed well and in good shape.

Sure beats the $1.00 each I was paying last Fall at my local pet store.

I bought 100 pinkies and 100 fuzzies from micedirect at Charlotte Repticon for $41, that was a good deal, and my snakes "luv em"... heheh

The guys at Mice Direct are great. Both Heath and John are very friendly and great to work with. I have personally been to their facility and it is HUGE. No dog food either...huge pallets of lab chow for all the mice. As far as I know, they produce all of their own mice.

I don't have enough mice to get me through until the next Charlotte Repticon. I may have to drive down to Columbia SC either in March or June.

They need to adjust their dates for when they come to Charlotte. January, and then October? Some cities get only 3-4 months between shows...some get 6 months...we get 9 months...

Oh well...such is life.

Does anyone know of a better source than rodentpro for quail chicks? I'm sick to death of freezer-burned mice, but I'll wind up paying a fortune for shipping if I split my order between two companies.

I know this is an older thread, but I must agree with you, Drew. I decided to try Rodent Pro a few months ago because they were having a sale. I usually order about 800 mice and rats at a time. I did save some money, but several bags of mouse and rat pinks were severely freezer burned, plus there was urine, bedding, and fecal material in most of the bags. Maybe that's why they were on sale . . . Also, I'm in Michigan, and they're in Indiana. Shipping cost me $98 and took 3 days.

The Mouse Factory is more expensive, but the mice and rats look like they were washed and groomed when you get them! Edna Queen is great to work with; very helpful and courteous. I kinda feel like I should send her a card apologizing for cheating on her! LOL
