What's your favourite thing about snake-keeping?

I don't know, maybe its my boredom kicking in, but I thought this might be a fun topic of discussion :) What's your favourite thing about snake-keeping?

It turns out that my absolute favourite part of this whole experience is the record-keeping... haha I have a document for my corn snake that says every time she's shed, every time she eats, what she ate, any time she acts weird, everything! I didn't realize how much I liked keeping track of everything in a nice orderly word document until my husband and I recently purchased two more snakes (ball pythons) and I was so excited to make them "growth and development charts," as I call them

I was just wondering, aside from the obvious love of handling snakes, what others enjoy most about this hobby :)

Seeing different colored - and sometimes surprising - little noses poking out of eggs each year!

kathy>>I haven't gotten to the level of breeding any of my corns yet--taking my time to learn as much as I can,but I bet seeing pippies for the first time will be amazing! :)

As of right now, I agree, sayjoo,I love record keeping also--I document everytime the feed,go in blue, shed,or any quirky things they do lol

But,I think my favorite parts are taking pictures, feeding time & simply holding them :)

I really like the record keeping too! I'd list that right up there with the excitement of finding a nice complete shed when I go to open a bin and a fresh brightly colored snake looking up at me.

Record keeping...definitely not my favorite part. I've gone through 2 or 3 different methods of keeping records before I found one that works well enough for me to be able to keep track of everything.

My favorite part is just seeing them, holding them. I like when I walk in the room and my favorite one is almost always out and about, watching me, (probably wondering I brought him a mouse...). I love all the color variables. I LOVE the genetics. I love seeing hatchlings poke out of their eggs.

Just like true love, waiting until the time is right will make it even sweeter, lol!

I love to hold mine... it's rather simple, I know, but I feel upset when I don't hold them :)

I like the handling and feeding of my snakes and the different attitudes that they have. Like one of my Cal. kings, thinks he needs to bite me all the time and how laid back my Black milksnakes are compared to my Honduran milksnakes.

Of course, cuddling and kissing them comes first! But I love capturing a perfect photograph. I went crazy with the first hatchling I produced. I love seeing updates on the babies I've sent out.

I would have to say that the best thing about snake keeping for me, is the chance to inform people about how awesome snakes really are.

Outcast> yup, that is pretty awesome--one of my best friends, who is very afraid of snakes actually held my Ball Python on Saturday--she never thought she would hold one & I was surprised ,but she actually did for about 10 minutes--pretty cool moment :)

Handling babies during their feedign and water changing, it is way zen. And just watching them with my boyfriend, telling what they are thinking with funny voices, hehe.

Though I have yet to bring my little snakey home, the whole experience of just preparing for her—the research, the Q&A sessions with people, the snake-shopping, has been amazing! My mother and grandmother have always been afraid of snakes, but now that I'm 18, mum finally relented and decided I could get one as long as it was a corn snake. The first thing I did was run out to Petco to see what was most readily available—and to start trying to get mum acclimated to being around them! I first got her to hold a baby boa at Petco, and then a rather dark normal corn at a nearby Petsmart. Last time mum and I went out with grandma, grandma even said she was "getting anxious to see it" because she thought it sounded like a beautiful, adorable critter! It's been amazing, getting two women who are very important to me and who have feared these animals all their lives to understand why I love them so much and start to conquer their fear! ^___^

Yeah watching the significant other "talk" for your snake is very amusing! Especially when he went to say hi! to Draco last night. "Hey! Your snake just struck at me!" Me: "Of course she did! She knows its dinner-day!"

Holding them and getting a snakey massage, when they tickle your ear with their tongues, taking pictures of them ( I can't wait to get that new camera this weekend! ) and when you get that perfect, unbroken shed from snout to tail tip! I LOVE seeing a complete shed of their head. Its just wild!

Oh yeah! Getting snake phobic people to hold them!

My S.O. really fills in their thoughts, like 'Please, can you give me a mouse now and stop staring at me?' with a silly voice.

Oooh great responses so far :) Several people said seeing that complete shed... my little girl is in her clear stage now so hoping for that complete shed!!! :)

Like a lot of you, I love getting people who once hated snakes to understand them a little better so that they're not so "scary" :) I've already had one person hold my baby corn snake and now she's gotten so brave as to pet a huge reticulated python (not my pet, it was at an expo) so it's great to see her changing her mind about snakes :) i'm determined to have my mom hold one of the ball pythons whenever she comes out to visit this spring. I think the corn snake would be a little too wiggly for her haha

That would be TOO funny! I am trying to imagine hubby doing that, but I can't imagine it. But it does make me laugh just trying to picture it!

I enjoyed decorating some cages, but not corns. They are pretty hard on decorations. I am really looking forward to setting up my tree boas again. I use bigger cages with live plants for them. That is fun!

Hands down, building enclosures.Im constantly looking for ways to make better homes for mine.I love researching the natural habitats, I even look up the specific country/area's weather patterns to try and figure out how I can make them feel more "at home".I just wish I had more money so I could really do what I want instead of "making do".
I also love the way they feel and so many different kinds.I want one of every kind.LOL!!!
