A Request for Breeders

Hey again, just wanted to voice some thoughts regarding a subject that has recently become apparent for me.

Now, any good snake enthusiast I have spoken to will agree the best place to purchase a pet is from a breeder and not a large pet store where animals fall by the wayside and are can have all kinds of potential health issues.

I don't begin to try and understand the level of energy and time that is required to breed, keep, and sell snakes. Added to that there is all the normal day things that need to get done.

So, here is my point a lot of the recommended places to find snakes websites on here have fallen by the wayside. Many still list 2010 or 11 breeding projects. I am a realist and don't expect every snake to be documented or anything close to that. New enthusiasts such as myself though when seeing a lot of sites like that might be inclined to go to where snakes are readily available.

I'm just saying put some news up to let us know the (current) babies are in the works and get rid of the dates that might lead less educated buyers to think that you or your site are defunct. Once again, I know you all work hard and this is not intended as a barb but more of a hope to make sure people are getting the healthiest and happiest animals possible and that the people who really love these animals and breeding them get compensated so they can keep doing so.

Sorry for run on sentences, I just felt a little passionate about this.

I completely agree. I've been looking to purchase more cornsnakes and most sites I've found are very outdated. Maybe everybody can help us make a list of breeders websites to go to.

If you're a breeder and have a website or know a website let us know in a reply.

Maybe this will help both of us out Nicklandovich. I was just getting ready tp make a thread asking ppl to help me make a list of breeders to check out.

I don't have a website - I have a facebook page, but it's rarely updated with what I have for sale, just cute pics and day to day happenings. Most folks I've found will sell via here or FaunaClassifieds.com. Those tend to be the most up-to-date venues to find what you're looking for.

Also, don't be afraid to PM or email someone and ask if they have what you're looking for. Even if they don't, they can usually point you to someone who may have what you're seeking.

I think that some breeders may have other things going on in their lives than to be on their websites constantly. Though I share your irritation. When I was looking for pink snakes I came across poppy's website, but it hasn't been updated in years. I also never received a reply to my emails. I have since learned that there is a personal thing going on and she hasn't been doing anything with the corns. It would be nice to have the website's home page say that they are not currently breeding though.

There are a few problems with this. First, updating a website, even to remove old stuff without replacing it with new stuff takes work. Many people opt to just keep it simple by posting here or elsewhere as was mentioned. It's pretty difficult these days to make a website and have it work well for you, so many create them and decide not to keep them up to date. It's also difficult with this economy and the decline in sales and prices to justify the work for many breeders. Most are also small time, hobbyist breeders that don't have the time to keep things up-to-date. Not trying to excuse people, but just explain why it's the way it is for many. And feel free to vote with your purchases from those who you think are doing a good job at it :)

I really feel it is important to not be misunderstood here, as stated in my original post, I know that people especially breeders have a lot going on. I also said I know websites are a pain. I'm only asking for the sake of all people looking for snakes, to present some sign of life and activity. A website that has listings from years ago will quickly be overlooked. After several websites like this people feel they can't find good snakes and resort to buying at Petco or Petsmart.

Please make sure you read what I've said as I clearly state us new buyers are not looking for the shiniest and flashiest website, just something that looks like someone actually pays attention to it and is dealing snakes still. Not everyone will end up at a forum for a place to find a snake, especially if looking foranimals in their area.

As I said; this is good for the breeders, the customers, as well as making sure good snakes get homes.

Wow, the first time I have come on this forum in a couple years and the very first thread I read mentions my un-updated website! I don't know whether to feel flattered or ashamed. Probably both, lol!

Huge apologies, I will try to find time to at least tidy things up a bit on the site. Don't expect a makeover, however. I will do well to figure out how to even hack into the site code, which is on a computer I retired a while ago.

Yes, I do still have my collection, and it has even improved since I am seeing the results from some pretty cool projects. I do plan to pare things down some however in the near future since my real job has left me with time only for maintenance (and a few special projects) and not for selling and shipping anything for the past couple years. Again, I do apologize. Guilty as charged!

Great to see ya back, Marsha! I'll be in touch soon. :)

Marsha your snakes are beautiful. My jaw is on the floor still. Glad to see your dealing snakes and I really hope no offense was taken in my OP.

Offended? Oh my no! You are SO justified in being frustrated.

But my family and my career have had to take priority over the snakes, and I had to make some hard choices.

Hope I can do a better job of at least answering emails.

This is such a great community, I really have missed being able to be an active part of it.

Walter
:crazy02:BOUT' CORNS !

Unfortunately some of these websites and listings are out of date. For us (Two Corny People) only Buzz' name and email address are given. Some breeders such as ourselves put our websites and facebook pages if applicable in our signatures. I know that we work very hard to keep our website updated and our fans on our Facebook page updated with progress and new additions. Right now, since it is the start of breeding season most have not updated their pages because most do not have anything available. We have a generic message that simply states "our first clutch is due March 29th" and we have a contact us page if you have any questions. I cannot speak for everyone on here but please know that some of us do work very hard at keeping everything up to date and as mentioned above you can always PM someone on here if you have any questions about their stock or what they have available - time, cost if applicable, and availability are huge factors in maintaining websites and social media sites.

I recall want to state one more time that the idea here is to just allow people looking for corn snakes to not resort to places like Petco/smart. Big difference from a website that looks like it s still being used and a defunct one that is just up because no one has taken it down.

The intent of our post above was to point out to you and other newer members that the list that Walter mentioned is not the most up to date one. Was not trying to take over your post in any way or go against anything that you originally mentioned. You asked for people who update their sites and sell snakes to post in this thread so I was just letting you know that we are out there and have more information than is available on the current breeder's list.

Here is another list of corn snake breeders and their websites which might be more up to date for you: http://snakesnmoresnakes.blogspot.com/2009/08/corn-snake-breeders-list-and-links-to.html

I like to keep the older year projects up on my website for reference, so I have pairings all the way back ro '08 on mine. And just getting started on 2013 pairings, so I don't like to jinx it by putting up a pairing that might not end up happening.
I did just update a few photos on mine, but if I only have a little time on a weekend I might prefer to spend it cleaning tubs, changing water bowls, feeding and all that good stuff than updating my site.

Thanks for the list Buzz, and your current available page is a perfect example of what I'm saying. Short to the point, and I know when to start bugging you guys!

Don't feel ashamed!! You have other things going on in life! But lots of folks on here would be pretty excited to see some of these pink snakes!! And you know, as you start to pare down the collection, well... Let's just say I can make some room for a few girls lol.

It's also the case that these have been very lean years for any breeder focussing on Corns. I suspect there are more than a few websites left up which are effectively "orphaned" and no longer have a hobby/business underlying them. We've seen some people on this board hit crisis point and have to get out of Corns in circumstances which make a website the least of their worries. Frustrating I agree, but sometimes understandable.
