Official Daytona 2008 Thread

PICTURES SOON TO COME!! all 200+ of 'em... look for the new thread I'm gonna start to be coming in the next couple of hours.

Oh, and I wound up walking away with a female Bloodred Possible het for Stripe, Charcoal, Lavender, Anery, and Amel

that will be fun proving all those poss hets out!!!!!
and i can't wait for the pics, is your thread in the photo gallery or where?

I did get pics - not as many as I had hoped because my onboard flash decided to crap out on my on Saturday. I was trying to get decent pics in manual mode so we will see when I upload them in a bit. Right now waiting for Mike to stop over so I can give him his present and show off my new babies before I put them away.

Came home with 6 - not telling what they are yet. You will all have to wait and see when I post pics tonight! (Oooohhh...the suspense!)

It was awesome to see everyone - both old friends and some new ones. Had a great time chatting with everyone at the show and at dinner. Really, I think the people - the friends we make through these forums - are the best part of any show like this.

I feel so lucky to have seen them already. muahahaha. All I'll say about them is that they're gorgeous!
And I completely agree, the friends really are the best part of these shows. I can't wait to go to more with you guys!

The feeding method I heard of was: take a pink or appropriately-sized drumstick. Hold the snake by the neck, so it can't move away. Tap it in the face with the pink until it goes to bite, then pop the pink in. I heard this from both a kingsnake breeder and a cornsnake breeder. So a variation on the feeding method where you tap the snake along the side of the body, only you want it to be irritated enough to just give you the open-mouth threat, and then take advantage of that.

I might have to try that a few of my hatchlings that are refusing to eat. Thanks Nanci.

I think I played my part as snake-buying instigator rather well. Although I lost heart this morning, I rallied and convinced Katie to buy the more expensive whatchamacallit. Miss Evil. The snake, not me.

More highlights: meeting Danny (Dwynn or whatever his screen name is). And meeting Scottsquatch!! Holy Moly Rocky. I accidentally backed into something this morning, and thought it was a brick wall, but it was Scott. I'm so glad we had some time to talk at the dinner!!

We had a discussion about anole catching, with Jeff Mohr revealing his secret technique. So this morning I took Danny off to show him how easy anoles are to catch. I stalked and lost sight of a hatchling, but spotted a big adult on a cement ashtray thing, and decided to try the Mohr Method. This involves wiggling your hand like a spider and fixing the anole's attention on it, while sneaking up from behind him with your other hand. Unfortunately, he spotted me at the last second and made a wild leap into the cement tube, which was filled with moldy, stinking water and trash. Got 'em! Then I caught a hatchling the old fashioned way. Meanwhile, we heard a report that bags were being checked for live animals, so I hid the anoles in Danny's coffee cup, and DAND Dave smuggled them in to Jeff. (Actually he's a vendor, so he took them in legally). Jeff says "But I don't drink coffee!" "You don't want to drink this coffee," Dave replied...

I missed meeting Terri! I am so disappointed.

And the newest member of Cornsnakes.com didn't make it to Daytona, but stopped off for a little vacation in Gainesville, at _my_ hospital!! I'm sure you'll be hearing the details in a few days!

Arriving home, my house and yard and lawnmower tent are all undamaged. I think I got about four more inches of rain after I left. It rained when I was leaving Daytona, and rained so hard traffic on the Interstate was 30MPH in Gainesville!

I bought a squishy, who you can meet in the General Chit Chat thread. Believe it or not, this is the first snake I have been unable to resist at a show. Ever.

It sounds plausible. The two breeders who swear by it, swear by it. We were joking around and calling it the "Slap your bitch up" method. Interestingly, I just heard it described again in a caresheet describing how to get the rare non-feeding rosy boa hatchling started...

pictures everyone, come on!!!!

i want to see the sunkissed male lisa.

Boy I was stupid or forgetful, maybe both
I carried my camera around all day but only took a few pics :(.

I am working on uploading pics of my new sunkissed, I will post them in Photos.

HA! I'm 6'2", and 240 lbs.....*I* felt like a dwarf standing next to Scott a couple of years ago at Tinley.

Shaking his hand reminded me of that scene from "Animal House"...."do you maaahnd iff we dance wiff yo dates?" ;)

(I'm REALLY hoping to get there next year....)

regards,
jazz

I was surprised to find lav mots all over the show in the $80-90 range. What's up with that?? And Rich Z had some pretty cool "plain belly" lavs for sale.

Hmm, I wondered why those yearling lavender motleys didn't sell so well....

I've got a LOT of video of the show, but it will take me a while to make something presentable from all that raw footage...

Aww.. Really? :( I wanted to go soooo bad, but figured I wouldn't have had the cash for anything really remarkable.

At first we thought they were non-feeders, but I saw at least three vendors with them marked at this price. Crazy.
