I see Jay posted his lil boy up. So I thought it best to post my new boy! I wasn't going to go in this direction but I just had to. So I hope you enjoy seeing my new 1.0 BCO Argentine Boa. I have not sat and thought about his name yet. In fact, I am a few names short for about 3 boas now. And input would be great. (1.1 Hypos DH Sunglow and this guy)

Thanks for looking!

Wow! Is that alive? He looks like a gargoyle watching over a building! Very nice!

As for names? I dunno... but Goliath was my favorite gargoyle on the cartoon "Gargoyles". Probably not catchy enough, but I tried! LOL.

Very kewl!

I actually think 'gargoyle' would be a great name for him. I love the coloration, and the way it makes his eyes look half closed.

he DOES look like he's made of stone...right up until he focuses those eyes on you. Is he thinking.....dinner?

What a gorgeous animal. I'd love to see more photos. how old is he?

I too vote for gargoyle. He is positively AWESOME! How big does he get and what are his care needs? I gotta stop looking at pics of different snakes or I'm gonna be overrun one of these days... LOL

Aw, he's so tiny! What will be his adult size? He's a dwarf locality, right?

Yes, he is a tiny baby. Just about 8 weeks old is my guess. I got my first boa at the age and she was that size too. Locality yes, but not a dwarf! He is a Boa constrictor occidentalis from Argentina. Here is a good link if you are interested in reading a bit on them.

I have a 4 yr old female, which I have had for about 1 1/2 yrs now and she has grown from about 4 ft long to just over 7 ft now. I dont power feed any of my boas! They are big boas in length more than girth. I wasnt going to breed them unless I could keep the line pure. I didnt want to cross this locality boa, seeing as they are quite unique and endangered in nature. In fact, I was looking to sell her up til I saw him!

When I first look into BCOs I found they are currently the only subspecies of boa listed as endangered by CITES (Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species) and is listed under Appendix I. So cross breeding was out of me! But now I have this little man and we will see what the future brings when the time is right.

Sorry for rambling on. Thank you for all your nice comments on him.

As for care needs, they are similar to caring for other boas (like RT's). They seem to do quite well with a summer/winter temperture change more then other boas do. So they do well with my Maine ambient temps in the house!

Hope this helps. Check out the link in my prior reply if you want to read more on them.

Thanks again!

He is absolutly beautiful! Does this mean you will be keeping your big female then? I hope so :)

If he was mine, I would call him smoulder, or ash, or stone crumble. LOL
