Animal Plastics and Reptile Basics Racks

Robbie, I've looked a lot at the Reptile Basics racks and they look appealing to me. How big is the gap between the top of the tub and the shelf? For hatchlings it would be easy enough to keep them in enclosed shoeboxes, but I worry about escapes.

There's virtually no space between the top of the tub and the rack. You'd be hard pressed to see even a hatchling ringneck snake manage to squeeze out of one, let alone a baby corn or anything else.

One of the things I do like about having 3 black sides is that the tubs stay nice and dark to add to the feeling of security for the snakes. I've noticed that my ones in the rack are a bit more active than the ones in vivs, especially during the day. Most of them can be seen prowling the front lines, but when they see you, head back into the darker recesses. I like to think it helps them know that they can hide from the big scary monster that brings them food. :roflmao:

The dividers keep each snake where it's supposed to be. I haven't had one to cross it yet. I have had the 5 tub 32qt rack now for 5 months. Just like KJUN said you get what you pay for and just like Robbie said there is no way a baby corn could get out.
I am very happy with my 16 tub hatchling rack and my 5 tub 32qt rack from RBI. I also got a prewired Ranco and a temp gun from them. Everything from them has been top quality.
**It's also nice that they are only 1 hour and 20 minutes from me.**

I love my AP Economy rack! I would not use it with hatchling corns because of the slight gap between the top of the bin and the shelf. Once they are on hoppers they should be plenty big enough to stay in the AP rack. I moved mine in at 75g. and have not had any issues. With Flexwatt my thermostat is set at 90* to keep the bins 84* (but that's with room temps in the 69-71* range).

I have three of the AP economy racks that are 10 tubs high. I love them! I don't think they feel cheap at all. They're very nice for what you get - I'll probably end up getting more when my collection expands.

As for RB racks, I have heard nothing but great things from them as well. I think its more of a personal preference - Coke or Pepsi, sorta thing.

Mine has no gap. I have the Iris shoe boxes in mine so that might make a difference.

Also, I see the sterelite tubs for this rack are no longer made....anyone know if there is an alternate?

AP's standard line of racks is also made in their Econo line, it's just not listed on their website. You need to e-mail them with what you need and they'll get back to you.

The replacement tubs Sterilite came out with for the 6/15/32's that they discontinued is IMO insufficient. Their is a huge gap because of how they're made and are more expensive then the original line. I've seen them setup in a rack at the Carlisle show and was far from impressed.

I chose the Economy Plastics racks because I like the open design. I wanted the snakes to get as much natural light as possible

This is also exactly why I choose the Econo line.

Do you know what the product number is for what Iris shoe boxes you used?

I am looking at the AP rack. I like the fact that you can have 15 and 32 quart tubs in the same rack. I didn't see which RB rack allowed different tubs in one rack, only that there were juvenile racks and midsize snake racks? I'm looking to use a rack for juveniles and a few adult corns and really can't afford right now two separate racks.

The AP rack I have is a hatchling rack but if you click on the economy plastics link you can get a combo rack for juvenile and adult tubs for any brand of tubs. I suggest calling their number between 6:30 and 8pm CT and tailking with Alli she help me out a lot.
