Bill's Herpin' Trip Across Dixie...

kathylove

Pragmatic & Logical
Bill and his pals took a week long spring break herping trip, starting around the okeetee area, down through Ga, and back into Florida a couple of weeks ago. He photo'd lots of herps and even brought back a locality male okeetee for me, in case I wanted to outcross with some new blood.

If you are going to ask if I went too - nope - stayed home with the critters. It was just the "3 Amigos", lol!

If you would like to read his travelogue and enjoy his photos, check it out:

Enjoy!

Neat. I think I saw these same photos over on Herp Forums. SC is a great state.

What's the Oketee Club? Why have they posted all that land?

Nevermind, I found it. Looks like an old-boys club - very exclusive. It's a shame all that land is off-limits.

What an excellent trip! That looks like so much fun. I'd way rather do that than go lay on a beach somewhere tropical.

Wow, awesome trip. I know I'm jealous. Some of those snakes were just absolutely beautiful and the sheer number they found was astonishing.

Just what I needed after a long day at work! Bill is so good with words and unequalled in herp photography. I especially enjoyed the comment about the huge male canebrake looking better than on some redneck's hat! :grin01:
Thanks for sharing the link Kathy

Excellent post, excellent reading and I am sure an excellent time. I would love to go on a herping trip like that. Great snakes and great photos.

Wow! That sure does bring back some fond memories.................

I'm so jealous, that last grey rat is beautiful! I would have had to take it home with me. Now that makes me want to go ramble about in the woods. Too bad I only have afternoons off, it's much better to do that sort of thing in morning before it's steaming, lol. Maybe I'll go out today, it's not too hot yet. I'll have to drive to Hilliard or Callahan though. Fernandina Beach/Yulee is too built up to find anything like that. I probably won't find a thing anyway, but I'll have fun doing it, lol.

That was a fantastic piece, the way it was written made you feel that you were right there in amongst the tin turning... Brilliant.....
