Daytona Donations

I will also volunteer my house again to serve as donation central for prizes being shipped in. The FedEx hub is literally just up the road from my school, so it's not out of the way at all. That way, someone else wouldn't have to worry about receiving AND transporting them. :shrugs:

Sorry - I was thinking that this was the OTHER Daytona thread, lol! Here is the sign. A few regular paper sized signs should be good if colorful and easy to read:

Can you also pick up live donations at your FedEx, and keep them for the show? That would be more convenient than me, or somebody further away.

GREAT!

Maybe you can post it here in all its glory, and then everyone can give suggestions if they want, and you can finish it.

THANKS!

I will definitely be bringing a couple of hatchlings, not sure which ones yet as I still have a couple of clutches to hatch and I want to make sure my donations are eating. I will also see if I can weasel one of hubby's orchids as a door prize. And if anyone wants mimosa tree seeds, I have tons of those!

I'll also see about getting some pet related stuff from work...tubes of Advantage, dog and cat treats, stuff like that.

We have been promised...

a beautiful pair of adult okeetees and all of their '10 clutch! He said he will email photos of the adults to stimulate interest.

Another person promised a hypo boa worth about $160.

Is anyone driving down I-95 from Philadelphia or further north? Our okeetee donor said he would meet somebody along the freeway if his snakes could get a ride to Daytona.

I saw Andrew at the FIRE show. He is going to come by our dinner and say a few words. Then he will have to go to the Expo auction to say a few words there, too. He is really stoked about our project.

Thanks Eddie! That is great!

Also - if anyone wants to donate who is not coming to the show - you can always send any live prizes to me directly and I will take them out with me on Friday.

I'll donate several hatchlings (provided they are eating), some "Corn Moon Cornsnakes" black polo shirts, maybe a few other things.

I bought four books for the raffle!!

2 copies of The Snake Charmer
1 copy of The Lizard King
1 copy of Herping the Devils Highway

I love all these!!

Those sound great Nanci!!

Don't forget - if you have something you would like to donate - just let me know. We also are still in need of door prizes if anyone has anything they think would work for that!!

Hey Kathy - any more donations coming in from your sources?
Right now we are still well short I believe of what we had last year. Anyone else willing to donate?

The person who wants to donate the okeetees has sent photos that I will post soon - they are nice! I think that will generate some interest.

I think a lot of people plan to donate to the big auction, so there has not been nearly the interest on KS that there was last year.

I was worried about that. I don't begrudge USARK for raising money any way they can, but on a personal level - I can't help it - this irks me. This was "our" thing. We did it last year with great success and now NRBE has to "copy" us.... I know it is stupid and petty, but part of me just can't help but have some resentment over it.

Yes, I know exactly how you feel - I am torn both ways myself. But the big auction will raise far more money than we can, so it is a good idea. It is a shame it kind of "steals our thunder" a bit. But, OTOH, I have become increasingly resentful of any auctions to raise money for conservation groups (the usual beneficiaries in the past) when most of them voted against us on that big anti exotic bill a year or so ago. And virtually none of them would be willing to speak FOR us when we are attacked, and the target of more regs. While I think conservation efforts are important, we are in a fight for the continued existence of our hobby/industry. The humaniacs have put us in this life and death struggle, and most of the academics and conservation groups support them. So I think we have to do whatever we can to support the few groups who support us, in whatever way possible, even if it does make things a little less fun for us.

I know you feel the same way. I was mainly spouting off for anyone who might read it, and not think carefully about why we have to be happy for the auction that is somewhat cutting into our own plans, fun, and prestige of this event.

The way I see it is money for USARK is money for USARK- no matter how they get it. We'll still have fun. In 2011 the NRBE auction will have a different beneficiary, and we'll still be plugging away for USARK...At least ZooMed is still matching us- we didn't lose that.
