* is this a safe cleaner*

if you throw some vinegar into that bleach solution the cleaning will really begin! The two have a chem reaction that really boosts the cleaning power without boosting any hazards.

I googled bleach/vinegar and most of what I saw said something along these lines
Editor's Note: Bleach and vinegar should not be mixed, especially in quantity, because it creates a toxic gas that could be deadly. So feel free to respond with homemade cleaning recipes but please do not mix bleach and vinegar (or bleach and ammonia).
:uhoh:

Let's hope no one read Emanon's comments and proceeded to clean their reptile's tanks/bins with his suggested mixture...

On a side note, Vinegar by itself is a way you can get hard water stains off of a tank. It's stinky and will take a while to rinse and get the smell out, but it's the safest thing I've ever been able to successfully get hard water stains out.

I believe Emanon's comments were on the sarcastic side. ;)

I wouldn't spend money on that cleaner, especially when it's bird-specific and expensive. I also use 25% bleach solution. Just make sure to rinse well and 'sniff test' for any residue. :)

I use Chlorhexadine solution (trade name: "Nolvasan") for cleaning my tubs. No noxious fumes, you don't have to rinse the crap out of it like bleach, and it can be safely ingested by the critters.

1 tablespoon of the stuff, mixed with 1 gallon of water....it works like a charm.

jazz

I'll second Jazz's endorsement!:)I've used it for along time.

What percentage chlorhexidine is in Nolvasan? Peridex is a prescription antimicrobial oral rinse containing 12%. So i'm wondering if my unused portion could now be put to use...

Where do you buy this stuff?

Danny, does the picture really match what you're getting for $11.50??!! I've never seen a gallon jug for less than $40-ish. Just curious as I could see no indication at that link stating the actual size of the bottle.

Thanks,
D80

Brent, I actually got mine from a company that went out of business and only got the 16oz bottle so I'm not familiar with the pricing on a gallon. I found this one doing a google search. To answer your question I went on the live chat and here's the "live" conversation. Eyre is either a robot or "no speaka de englas"

Dan: Question
curious. Your ORM-D Chlorhexidine gallon for $11.50. I've never seen this product for less than $40.00. Is it a gallon bottle, or does it make one gallon?

Eyre: How May I help You?

Eyre: can i have the item code please?
blank.gif
Dan: LVS-005KHR-1G

Eyre: yes it is $11.50

Dan: Is it the concentrate that you add 1 oz to 1 gal of water?

Eyre: Active Ingredient: 2% Chlorhexidine Gluconate.

And there you have it, another American job sent abroad.:shrugs:
