What I hate about all the gun control legislation is that it does nothing to address root causes of gun violence, and thus has no hope of fixing the problem it ostensibly addresses.

What I hate about it is that I don't believe for a second that politicians ever thought that it would. It's just simply a people control policy.

You know, I think that is one reason that I opted for the 22 instead of another type of gun. Many people don't like 22's for home protection and whatnot, but they don't understand that the right person behind the gun, can do as much damage with a little 22 bullet that someone with a .45 can do.... Shoot for the neck or death triangle, and you no longer have someone coming at you. Instead you have either someone bleeding to death on your floor, or dead because that little 22 bullet bounced around in his skull... I mean, come on, Assassins use silenced 22's all the time... LOL
Of course it is. They absolutely HATE that we can say NO to some restrictive foolishness they pass into law. It's no accident that the founders of this country and authors of the Bill of Rights made the right to bear arms SECOND on that list of 10 original statements. And the Bill of Rights was DEMANDED by the states because they felt that the Constitution itself did not go far enough to guarantee OUR rights in the face of this new federal government being created. They WANTED it spelled out explicitly, in black and white. Not that it has done much good today, apparently. Pretty much our "rights" have become simply privileges in the eyes of our government "representatives".
I used to work for the Florida legislature. Pretty much every one of those people voted into office thought they had been appointed to semi-Godhood. I can imagine that on the federal level it's much worse.
Most of the people who sneer at the lowly .22 have never really seen the damage that bullet can do. I sure as hell wouldn't want to get shot by one.

Being as a bunch of high school teen "gangsters" here in Las Cruces actually killed a guy with 22's by shooting up his trailer, I would not want to be shot by one either... He was hit by a ricochet in the neck. They thought it was the home of another kid from their school who had been picking on one of the gang members, and wanted to send a message.... Little punks. I believe that they only caught one of the guys and his "name" was Tuna....

I've always heard that one of the concerns with .22 LR in a home defense capacity is the tendency to overpenetrate, especially with the standard non-hollowpoint round. I've had trouble getting hollowpoints to feed in a .22 pistol myself, so that leaves me with few options I'm happy with for a .22. Granted, it's still better than bare hands, but there are some pretty solid cons to using it for home defense.

If you are having trouble feeding hollow points, I would look into polishing the feed ramp. What kind of pistol is it? I bet we can get that thing feeding HPs in an afternoon. And as for over-penetration, 22 lr IS a light round, but standard velocity won't be all that bad, in comparison to other pistol calibers. There is always some risk when firing any gun in self defense, but hopefully judicious use of a gun, target identification, and shot placement will minimize it.
While .22lr would never be my first choice of a home defense weapon, there are an awful lot of people in graves from them.

Why does this not surprise me for Lost Causes? Sadly, the only things I miss from there are my former city pay, caliche's (it'll always be scoopie's to me), and being able to get out into BFE within 20 minutes from Missouri and Don Roser to go off-roading or herping.
