New Eyelash Viper!! DUW...

Robbie, I understand that meg knows alot or now I do.I did'nt know she knew, I have not seen her around much! but the simple fact is that I ment well. I just asked for her personal saftey thats all,
:) :p

First off...everybody...remain calm :) I took absolutely no offense from David's warning. He's absolutely correct in reminding people how dangerous these animals are. FWIW: I've kept corralus and chondro species for 4 years...I've never been bitten by any of them except one of the ATB's when I was treating him for mites. I'd never consider free handling a hot....as a matter of fact, I hope to not handle him as much as possible. That said, there's no reason for hostility on anyone's part. You can never be too good when handling hots, and even caring for arboreals, semi hots like cats, or any other snake does not change the fact that hots are different. It's a whole new experience to have to wear shoes into the snake room, check before entering the room, making sure there are snake hooks available at the door in case someone gets out. You have to THINK each time you enter the room, concentrate fully when working with them...even if it's just spraying. It's easy to get complacent and figure that I really don't have to put on a glove when opening the cage just in case. I have to remind myself, that although he's small, he's still fully intact. You can never be warned too often. I would never be offended by a reminder...whatever the source.

meg, I think you will make a great hot keeper, in 5-10 years I will be considering hots, thank you for understanding Meg,

Blast you for moving away BEFORE getting an eyelash viper!!! Hehehe.

*dreams of viper photoshoot*

Absolutely adorable. :)

David who?

That is a very beautiful snake you have there Meg. And since I checked out your site first, I can kinda tell that you know what you are doing ;)

Totally not even thinking of hots for myself right now, but I will gladly watch your little guy (or gal, I can't remember if you put the sex on the first post) grow up!

Thanks for the pics :D
-Josh

Meg-
GORGEOUS Eyelash! I want one. I wish I could have one in Cali, but I can't, so I'll work on getting set up for local crotalus species...

Congrats on an AWESOME pickup!!

David-
Do you realize how nearly identical your words in this topic are compared to words of warning given to you in other topics? Do you further realize that everyone that has uttered these similar words to you had nothing but yours and the snake's best interests in mind when they made the comments? Do you even further realize that if your comments had been posted by somone else in a topic you started...you would have had a hissy fit and turned it into a gigantic war of words, and you would have stomped off angry at the world?

Tricksters comments have less to do with your knowledge, than with your track record for advice. Someone that cannot take simple advice and criticism should not be so quick to give it.

And for the record...your Cat Snake is no more a "practice hot" than a hognose or nightsnake would be...

That's all I'm sayin'...

Ok first off the words are identicle because I read what was said and I used them
Second, Meg actually thanked me and repped me for saying the stuff Idid,
Third I always have the snakes best interest in mind
Fourth I know that the cat snake is not tecnically a hot but I treat it as one
Fifth if someone said the stuff I said in a thread of mine I would listen, do you realize that everyone said oh let the king rat settle in and it will get mean, well she is still sweet after 3 weeks!

Meg, beautiful new snake. I'm a rebel, too,...and haven't checked out your home page or your site. (Although maybe I have in the past.)

David, respect your elders. She's been on this forum since Dec 2003. When you were a 9 year old little snakegrasshopper.

I checked the site it is very cool. I may buy an ATB from you in a couple years
Snakegrasshopper? When I had a RGS it ate grasshoppers

And for the record...your Cat Snake is no more a "practice hot" than a hognose or nightsnake would be...

Did someone say Hognose? :nyah:

Seriously though, that's a beautiful Eyelash Meg. That's one of the few dangerous hots that I would ever consider owning despite the fact that I'll probably never get one. Awesome snake though, congrats!

i think if you have the knowledge and experience a hot is a snake you need to work with, they are sooo beautiful

Gorgeous snake!

Eyelash have always been my favorite hot snake - perfect size, variable colors, beautiful display animals, and easy to care for, once they get a little size and are eating full pinks regularly. They do remind me a lot of mini ATBs - with fangs! It has been many years since I have had any eyelash of any color - don't tempt me to add more species again with such a beautiful example!

Congratulations!

Jenn: You'll just have to come here and bring yer camera!
Josh: He's a he...
Tyflier: Favorite Crotalus...Ruber ruber...the red diamond. I almost caught one down there to keep. I had access to DFG land as a friend was an agent. He offered to let us come and catch as many as we wanted. We ended up not getting a chance to go, which is just as well. Moving hots across state lines is a whole 'nother ball of wax.
Kathy: Temptation, smemptation!
To the rest of you...Thank you. I'm enjoying just watching him. I might eventually set up a simplistist natural terrarium type cage. I don't want too much in there so that it makes it difficult to get him out or work in there safely, but at the same time, they are such gorgeous display animals that you want to see them in something other than paper towel/branch set up.
And please: no more sniping between anyone. This thread was not posted to start a war, merely to show off a long time passion that I've aquired. Much like my snail eaters. I took warnings in the light they were intended...as I would from any of you. I inhabit the venomous forums quite frequently and they do the same thing. So no harm, no foul. If you have a personal vendetta against someone, or want to make a further comment to them...please do it privately. I'm enjoying the thread otherwise. After all: I started it!

Meg.... woa. Thats all I can say. That wee booger button is the cutest thing I have ever seen. Congrats! I would LOVE to keep hots in the future, but due to the DWA liscense laws in the UK they make it as freakin hard as possible to keep hots.

I have a question- how bad would it be if someone got bitten by an eyelash viper? Is there anti-venon, what effect would the venomn have?

Localized pain, swelling, blistering and necrosis with possible systemic reactions in severe envenomation. Death from an untreated bite is unlikely but possible. Polyvalent antivenom is used for extreme cases. Most cases of bites are treated symptomatically.

Meg, I am soooooooo jealous!! Button is such a cute name because he is as cute as one!! Just adorable! :)

I was wondering about the bite as well so thank you Tyflier for that info :)

Meg, also, I want to say thank you for not only posting this gorgious snakes pic but for also taking David's comment as it was ment... a sincere comment about your safety :) Maybe not worded the best but was well ment :) (I have a son who is autistic and will sometimes not phrase things perfectly but sometimes ya just gotta read between the lines a little)

David, if you read this.... thank you for saying what you did. Not everyone thinks about the warnings and getting knowledge before getting such a cute little snake that can cause real harm. :)
