Official Daytona 2008 Thread

Hey all,
We'll be driving down I95 from North Carolina on Friday. Hopefully this storm will keep moving and not hang around too long.
Stay safe, try not to get too wet, and I'll see you in Daytona.
John

I am happy I don;t have to deal with these in Cali.. At least the earthquakes are generally done and over with when we are hit.. Be safe friends, and hopefully all is well for ya's..

regards.. Tim of T and J

I was a lot more comfortable when it was passing to the north of me. Now it's going straight overhead, or worse, to the south. I'm not going to feed snakes tonight just in case. Just in case what, I don't know, power outage? Not like they're going to get cold. But they could get hot, and it's the babies who are due to be fed. Have to bail out of my house with 16 snakes, two birds, one lizard Friday at 2AM? I think there will be more accurate info about the track and intensity by this time tomorrow.

I'm happy you're all still going, too!!

At least it's not sitting right on top of you :realhot: I'm just wishing this thing'd be over and done with.

It's a bit windy in Daytona right now as it looks like there's an attempt by Fay to reform her eye-wall.

Robbie,
Are you in Daytona right now??? If so, how about an upadte on the road conditions. Is there bad flooding coming in on international speedway or any of the roads for that matter. Is there any problems from I95 to The Hilton??

Thanks in advance,
Walter

I live in Daytona. LOL. I'm gonna be going out for a drive today to give an actual road update. Fortunately, right in the Daytona area, there hasn't been a whole lot of flooding or winds. There've been a couple of downed trees, but that's about it. But I will take the W Int'l Speedway Dr to I-95 today and let you all know how the road conditions are.

Today is going to be sooooo long at work! I keep thinking of all the things I have to do before tomorrow! I already bought new sterlites, binder clips and name tags for any new snakies I bring home. Still have to wash a load of clothes and pack....

The anticipation is killing me. I can't wait to get out there - wander the aisles, see all the awesome herps, and visit with all my cool friends!

So I just got back from the beach, and here's my report for all of those driving in:
I-95 and West International Speedway Blvd are all perfectly fine to drive. However, you might want to be careful going over the bridge on WISB. It was a bit windy at the top today (and I drive a Ford Explorer sport), so be sure to take extra care on your way to the convention center. The Hilton and the Ocean Center are both fine with no apparent damages.

See you all on Saturday!

Here's another little update:
The storm is moving on. All of Volusia county (including Daytona) is under a flood watch/warning. I haven't personally seen any flooding, yet, so I think we'll be good there. Tomorrow, the storm should have moved far enough on that we won't have to worry much about a lot of rain/wind, and by Saturday, the weather should be fine, with just a remaining few thunderstorms sticking around.
See you all at the expo!

Guess where the center is now?? Mmm hmm, my house. So far, so good. When they say "This isn't a wind event, this is a rain event," that doesn't mean we still didn't have gusts of who knows what, 50 mph, during the night, with strong enough sustained winds to keep me awake. I don't mind the rain. I got an inch yesterday, then three inches overnight. I'm going to watch it for a while before I head out to Daytona.

It seems this place is going to be deserted this weekend with all of you at the expo. Can't wait to hear how it all went and lots of pics of all your purchases. Have a safe trip to those who are traveling and have a wonderful time to everyone!

I'm glad Fay has finally decided to move on...I just wish she had done so yesterday. I'm watching the storm closely, but may end up not leaving until early tomorrow morning. I'm not fond of driving in heavy rain and wind and it looks like that is all I'll get for most of the day. Now if the storm moves fairly rapidly across the state, I could leave later this afternoon and hope I can still find a room by the time I get to Daytona. Today. I'll just take it one hour at a time.

I'm sooo glad she's on her way out! We're going to miss you guys around here over the weekend. Hope you all have great fortune on your sales and your purchases. Don't forget to take some group shots of yourselves and of course all the cool snakes so we can share in the fun!

Be safe, and have an awesome weekend! :wavey:
