Sorry about the strictness of this requirement, but it is necessary to block spammers and scammers at the door as much as possible.

Seems like it'll never end till they get what they want :(

I feel stupid. I don't really know what this means. Does it mean no more breeding or owning of these animals?

I think adding boa is a bit extreme. They don't get that big IMO.

I fought SOOOO hard, spent so much money, publicized everything, donated USARK memberships to anyone who asked me for one, recruited family and friends to write to congressmen- all for nothing. It's hopeless, IMO.

Steve,

Couldn't agree more with your assessment.

I see a day, in the not too distant future, when keeping exotic fish will come

under fire.

Silliness.

So horrible. They are doing all sorts of this nonsense, across the board.
I will never, ever get rid of my boa. These people are the monsters.

They are trying to pass laws against Importing, Exporting, and interstate trafficking these particular animals, along with some birds, fish and small mammals. Also they are trying to pass Cat X categorical exclusion. Which basically gives FWS the means to pass laws regarding Herps much more easily without looking at things like how will it effect the economy, Scientific studies etc... They would have almost unlimited power regarding passing whatever law they seem fit to.:smash:

USFWS also ignored important scientific findings that contradicted its predetermined outcome. They are also unlawfully ignoring conservation concerns. It's worth taking a look into this issue at hand and joining the USARK mailing list.

Unfortunately, it is not just the freedom to own herps that is going down the drain. It is freedom to do pretty much anything that is under fire. Those who want to regulate everyone else seem to be winning, piece by piece. I fear that the next generation won't even know what they have missed. I don't really see much hope anymore of avoiding "1984" at some point. Just not sure when Big Brother will be THAT pervasive, but each year seems to bring us closer.

Sometimes I am glad we never had kids. I would really worry about them and their kids' futures. But I guess they won't miss what they never knew...so sad...

Can someone share on the first question and verify the last two.

1) So, evidently my definition of "injurious" is not the same as others. What constitutes FWS definition of "injurious"...if I have missed it in the text?

2) US Congress is through, finished, all gone home for the year?

3) Fleming-USHofR-Republican and Vitter-USSenate-Republican, both from Louisiana, seem on the sympathetic side (for fewer, less strict rules, in our favor)...correct?

They probably won't stop you from keeping and breeding them within your own state - although more and more states will probably follow their lead and ban them within each state, too. The feds will just stop you from legally taking them across state lines - even when you move. That will strangle the hobby more slowly than a complete ban. But it will still choke the life out of it, eventually.

Which is what Senator Bill Nelson wanted all along- the snake ban is his baby. He could give a flying flip about any logical reasons for keeping snakes, or that propagation of snakes might benefit our state. He hates them, plain and simple, and when he was gifted with the death of a toddler by some freaking negligent idiot keeper, he took it and ran. It was over from that moment- now we're just dealing with the details.

I'm in Canada, not the US, but it's bad here too. My city just recently passed a new bylaw banning all pythons over 2 meters (6.5 feet), and all non-pythons over 3 meters (9.8 feet). I'm not a python person myself, not yet anyway, but I hate bans like this! :(

Oh my gosh I hope nothin like that passes here. Why can't people just stop mistreating there pet privileges. And also people stay out of herp people private lives.

The retic and boa ban would definitely hit a lot of breeders. The boa breeders might have the hardest time though. I know prehistoricpets are going to have a real hard time with all those retic projects they have.

I found this on a PDF in regards with RIN-1018-AV68, hosted by kingsnake.com. This is just from kingsnake.com though, but given its popularity it might be pretty representative of how the market flows.

I'm surprised to see corn snakes so far behind the kingsnakes, I always thought corns were slightly more popular.

I wonder if part of the reason isn't that there is this forum and Fauna that lots of people sell corns through.
