Cohabbing is cruelty...
....and this guy comes in. I had forgotten that he came on about a month, or maybe 5 weeks ago, and asked me if I could take in a corn snake. His friend had had a pair, and bred them twice. Then the male died so he decided to rehome the female. Well, I said yes.....then promptly forgot about it.

Anyway, this is what was in the box. Her name is Ivory. She is very sweet and right now is just chillin' on my left hand, not moving, while I type this with my right hand. Anyway, she appears to be a motley. I think she is a pure corn, but if she is, she has to be the ugliest snake I have ever seen!! Could she be part yellow rat? What do you think?

Yellow rat or bairds or something like that, but definitely looks like a motley. Also looks gravid.
 
Nice snake, Beth!!! Ivory?? I think if she was part yellow rat, she'd have stronger black stripes. I think she's a Copper Corn...

Yeah, I think somekind of obsolata hybrid and motely patten. Grandparents may have been a motley corn and an everglades rat (or whatever). Would explain both the pattern and hybrid "look".

Some vendor at Daytona said the Copper corns are a completely different color as you move down the body...the head is really dark, while the tail is really light.
 
Looks like some sort of ratsnake in there. Also, many of the ratsnakes can have a "motley look" without really being a motley. I've seen the greenish ratsnakes from coastal SC and GA that have a motley like patter AND clear bellies.
 
Thanks everyone! I posted her pic on facebook, and a friend of mine thought she was beautiful. When I told her that I had the snake at the shop she broke 50 laws getting here!! Ivory now has a new home, and Allison has her first snake. It was love at first sight!

But she is not gray!!

When Allison came into the shop (just to see the new addition), and I handed her over...the look on Allison's face was priceless. She loved that snake right away. Held her for over an hour. It was a really good match! :)
 
I have no clue what she is but I agree.....she's not overly pretty, LOL

I'm glad her and your friend fell in love.....such a happy ending :)
 
I wouldn't call her fugly either! Let her shed once (sometimes a snake can get really ugly just from a dirty environment), put her on a bed of fallen pine needles with some fresh green leaves poking through for contrast, add some natural sunlight to bring out her copper highlights and viola!...gorgeous snake!
 
Susan, that was a very sweet thing to say, but I think the girl is way beyond makeover :) (But as long as Allison loves her....)

The former owner paid me a visit at the store. A teenager or young 20 something girl. I had asked for the snakes history when the guy brought her in, and he said the owner would email me...but she showed up at my work instead...anyway, the girl got the pair from craiglist 2 or 3 years ago. Got the snakes, tank and supplies all for $70. She kept saying what a great deal it was. The male died, so she decided to rehome the female. The snakes were kept co habbed, and the female laid whoopsie eggs twice. The girl heard that you were supposed to keep the eggs damp, so instead of putting the eggs in a seperate container, she left them in the cage and put moss around them...and wet paper towels. Couldn't figure out why they never hatched!!! Said when the female was "pregnant" she would eat 5 or 6 mice a week......and that the male never ate as much..onlyl 3 mice a week...
And said that she wanted to rehome Ivory with me so that Ivory would have a "boyfriend" and be bred again. That was really really important to her.....

I have to say, although Allison has never had a snake before, she is a true animal lover and will do ANYTHING to make sure the snake has the best life possible. Ivory is a whole lot better off today.....

In this case I HOPE that they were incorrectly feeding her multiple fuzzies instead of mice.. 6 mice?!! There's no way.. that snake doesn't look obese.. :shrugs:

Ivory DEFINITELY is in better hands now! Also, that's cool that Allison likes her. After seeing my snakes, many of my friends become interested in snakes. I actaully won a little normal at a recent expo, and gave it to my roommate. She was thrilled and thought the snake was amazingly beautiful. Of course I had hardly given it a second glance because it was just a normal.. but after caring for it and watching how excited my roommate gets over her.. I can see the beauty now. ;)
