My kids don't eat grass! We eat vegan ribs, vegan burgers, vegan hotdogs, vegan cheese, vegan anything we crave or want!
My kids wouldn't know we are vegan if I didn't tell them.

Get the info....do the research! Im not going to do it for you just to proove you wrong, that's really not my style.

Just go easy on us vegans. Not all of us are pushy. My meat eating friends when invited over for bbqs or dinner I always provide a meat option.

Tara, I think that is really cool. I have heard that some vegan people don't even like meat in their houses...(might be a religion thing, or just that meat gives them really bad feelings, I don't know).
If I had vegan friends over, I would find out what they liked to eat and provide it too. (And if I was feeling brave, I might even try it!!) :)

Thanks! I don't like it in the house but will do it (and prepare it while dry heaving) lol~ for my meat eating friends and family. It's just rude to only prepare what I like.

and cattle *is* hurting the planet. Espesially our streams, lakes rivers.....

Sorry to burst your bubble. It is what we feed the cattle mixed with all the chemical fertilizers ect.. that are destroying the streams.... Grazing animals have been here since the dawn of the dinosaurs so that fact that they destroy lake and river needs to be rethought about....

Oh I like veggies ...with my steak

I really don't think kids want to eat hay! grass! silage! whatever!

I think you are missing their point. The idea is not that the specific FOODS that we feed to cattle would then go to people, but that the LAND we use to raise foods for cattle would go towards raising food for people... i.e. grains, vegetables, fruits, etc. They are correct in that it would theoretically provide more farm land for raising people food.

That being said...

The "myth" that vegetable farming is always "better" for the environment than livestock farming is just that-- a myth. Intensive livestock farming (i.e. raising hundreds of cattle in a 50 acre lot is often bad for the environment. But organically raised, field bred and fed cattle actually offer a lot to the environment. Vegetative fields are created and maintained as monocultures-- one species of plant ONLY-- whereas livestock fields can be planted and maintained in many ways, to the benefit of many different species of animal. I think a balanced approach is the best. I think that organic or natural, pasture raised livestock is best over intensively "cultivated" livestock.

I hate the idea that my meat consumption causes the end of an animals life, but many of the vegetarian options I have tried for protein do not appeal to me, and without protein I get very unhealthy. I was a vegetarian for 6 months or so in college after doing my pig rotation in animal science. When you look into a cows eyes there isn't a whole lot going on there (but they sure are cute!). Pigs on the other hand actually appear intelligent. There is a lot of brain power behind those eyes. Even though I have gone back to eating meat, I don't eat as much as I used to and I generally avoid pig products for the most part.

So ends my long response. I'll conclude with this...

A rant such as this shows just as little tolerance as the people that are targeted by the rant. There's an argument to be had for both sides. Relax and learn. :)

Well of course climate change is real. The Earth is a constantly changing planet.

Oh, and Cornsnake124, you're showing your age. Grow up. Your opinion isn't the only one that's "RIGHT".

Climate change is real. I like meat.
We're going out for steak next week!

Radio shows

People on the radio can basically say whatever they want without worrying about if it's true, or if it is from an appropriate source. Political radio hosts are quite notorious for this, no matter what side of the aisle they represent. They do not care for the truth, they care about making "their side" look good. I have made this deduction after listening to political talk radio going on 5 years now. I've listened to Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Franken, Randi Rhodes, Young Turks, Dennis Miller, Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow, Mark Davis, etc...etc...etc... I find most of them entertaining (except Limbaugh who is too condescending and narcissistic for my tastes, yet I listen to him everyday...). However, I have learned to filter and question anything and everything all of them say.

Actually it is because mass produce cattle to the extreme and all of their sh*t runs into our water ways. Chemicals or not mass sh*t is mass sh*t in our water ways. If grazing animals stayed as such and not being factory farmed their would be way less of that sh*t

But not ALL farms do this. There are farms that are designed to be as green as possible. When I worked fisheries in Western MD we watched a feed lot farmer redesign his cattle farm to avoid the runoff and dumping of cattle manure into a local creek. It's possible, and it does happen.

True, however very few factory farms do that because it is very expensive. Not enough of them do. They are struggling to make a buck as it is.

thats not what I said... I said that thats what COWS eat and they say that instead of feeding cows we should feed kids in africa with that food. I never said YOUR kids ate grass....

Exactly!

Ok.. I think I kind of get what they mean if you put it that way.....

Exactly. Thats pretty close to how we farm. Our cows are on pasture all year (except winter, they don't have any grass to eat.) and our calves are out there till november, etc..etc.. etc..
The only time they are in a dirty lot is the feed lot. They are in there around 10 months, (from november to august) and we clean it out regularly and we dump the manure in fields for fertilizer and we only put it where it will not wash into streams. The only things we put in them is a growth implant, which just ups the level of hormones they already have naturally. Are feed is natural for the most part, it is ground corn and the only things we put in are soybean meal and oil, which if you think about it, is natural to!

Well of course climate change is real. The Earth is a constantly changing planet.
Yes. Your right. Thats what i think exactly. I just think that its not going to be ending the world any time soon.

Are we going formal? You know who I am.....

Your opinion isn't the only one that's "RIGHT".
I know that... Yet that doesn't mean that i should vegan. I have my opinions, so do other people. Thats fine.

Give me some names of mass production farms. I can't speak for other states, but in Iowa most cattle producers are small family farms who use mostly pastures and only use feed lots when the calves are about ready for market.

Sorry, thought you ment my kids! What they main is that they feed with grain. That grain could be used for human consumption.

That song is a parody of the extremest vegans that your rant is about.

And we don't grow carrots in the Midwest. (this is another mis-informed instance of city people about the country and farms)

Now that was a little rude. Heck I was in the FFA when I was in high school. And a simple google search will show you that there are people farming carrots in the Midwest. (This is another misinformed instance of a farm boy thinking he knows everything about the country and farms)

Wow, that last part seemed rude, I wonder why?

I was going to post a few links as sources but since you have not posted any links to your sources for your "facts" I did not see the need to.
