THE CHALLENGE!!!!!

That's got to be true, otherwise flourescent, sunglow, vomitmels and reverse okeetees would all be 'just amels'. Genetically they are, but the expression of the genes plus agreed standards gives distinct morphs.(And the chance to disagree over those standards)

But I don't know what the "agreed standard" is for crimson versus hypo-Miami. I'm not arguing that there is no difference; I'm merely stating that I don't know what that difference is. :shrugs:

Oh I meant like miami/normal/okeetee.
I thought crimson was hypo miami? So it should have a clean pale tan or silver background, bright red/orange saddles but paler ventral checks and borders than a normal miami. Allowing for the reduced melanin it should still have a good contrast between saddle and ground colour.

What I remember, I think it was from Don's site that hypo miami is a silverish snake with clear red saddles, Crimson is more tan with dark orange saddles...

I just checked and in his gallery there is a hypo miami and 2 Crimsons... no explanation so not very clear...

RE: Crimson vs Hypo Miami

The name 'Crimson' originated from the brilliant red coloration that the dorsal blotches can have in many of the babies. Of course, there can be some substantial changes taking place as the animals mature, but you still usually get quite an attractive looking snake as an adult.

Coloration in the ground color tends to be more towards the gray spectrum, in keeping with the ancestry of the Miami Phase corns, but even some producing the orange background can be very stunning looking. The dorsal blotches typically are orangish red, with some leaning more towards orange and others toward red. Some particular animals will have a more maroon coloration to the blotches that is quite pleasing to the eye.

And if you look here, you can see that all varieties of a Hypo Miami ARE Crimson, no different then there are a ton of different variations seen on Miamis. Crimson is just another trade name. ;)
