UPS/ShipYourReptiles.com

It's a bad situation, yeah... Maybe you should have waited before shipping again though. And MAYBE she needs to just take it to the hub herself.

You guys are like the expection to the rule as far as I can see. Bad things happen with ANY company, especially new companies and since this isn't happening to the majority of people, I myself will continue to use SYR/UPS until I experience one of these problems. I urge everyone else to do so as well.

Sorry for the double post, I just wanted to clarify that I too agree this is unacceptable and needs to be dealt with. But I don't think it warrants completely boycotting SYR.

I agree with Em here.

Steph you are FedEX certified, why didn't you just use your account to have her ship to you?

Either you have the worst luck or some ones out to get you. Did you make some one mad at UPS? :sidestep:It's just a joke people. Trying to lighten the mood a bit. If this were happening to me I'd be just as irate.

Isn't it possible to send a pre-paid shipping label to someone so they can ship to you? I think I read somewhere that it's possible. :shrugs: If so, that's an option for you, Steph and hopefully things will turn out better. :)

Steph you are FedEX certified, why didn't you just use your account to have her ship to you?

Because then I would be violating my agreement with FedEx. The FedEx Certification only applies to the person who has it. Char did not go through the Certification process, thus she can not ship with my account. This was one of the issues that came up with the whole FedEx debacle with that other company (whose name escapes my mind at this time). Well, in reality we all know she could do it "under the radar" by not labeling the package and just sending it on its way...I don't approve of that and do not want any part of that sort of situation.

Did you make some one mad at UPS?

Actually, my Uncle has worked for UPS for five or so years now...Maybe he's mad at me and has me flagged...

If you have an account with fedex and you are on vaction or visiting some one, then why can't you ship using your account to your self? She wouldn't be pretending to be Steph. It's Steph shipping to her self. No where does it say in the rules "If you are certified you have to ship solely from your home address and never to your self". I know it's not completely right but in this case maybe once wouldn't hurt. I dunno, never had this problem so not sure what to advise.

No, but I wouldn't be doing the shipping. She would. See my point? I have given my FedEx Account to someone to ship to me before, but I was notified by my rep some time ago that isn't permitted (oops).

I think it also comes down to principal. Just because I have an account with fedex and I wants snakes shipped to me doesn't mean I'm willing to bypass the rules just so I can use my account to my advantage.
I may be wrong but I get the feeling that's a bit of what is going on here.
and I applaud Trip for holding true to her principals!

Extreme times call for extreme measures. If there's no other way to get the snakes to someone who can care for them, then what are you going to do?

I'd hate to break/bend the rules, too. :(

What has SYR said about this? What are they doing to help fix your problem, and to make sure it won't happen again? Surely they have said something about it?

Kathy, there was only one short phone call made to Char this morning from SYR to acquire more information about the situation. She has not heard anything else yet today. She'll be able to pick up the snakes in about an hour (she's an hour behind me and I'm EST time).

Em, while you may be willing to break the rules, I am not. I will not risk my FedEx Certification by violating their regulations. It would be extremely stupid for me to do at this point and time especially because FedEx is the only way to safely ship snakes. I don't think it would look too great on me to have to tell my customers "wellllll, I can not longer ship because FedEx revoked my Certification because I knowingly broke their stipulations."

I wasn't saying that you SHOULD. I was simply saying that at a certain point what else are you going to do? Maybe you should try talking to your rep and seeing what he suggests for you to do in this situation? Perhaps there is a way for you to get the snakes to you that you are not aware of.

I am really sorry to hear of these problems. It is certainly not acceptable. I think that SYR has really put in a lot of effort to make this work, and I think it is very likely that this WILL work because of their work. I expect some problems with a new service. But how they handle the problems is what will determine how, and if, it works in the long term.

Please post updates on the animals, and also how the incident is resolved between you, SYR, and UPS. If you and the shipper did everything properly, as it sounds like you did, then it would seem to me that UPS and/or SYR should take responsibility for paying any unwarranted fees that were incurred because of the UPS mistake. I am sure everyone following this would like to know the end resolution.

Touche!
Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is looking.
I support you Steph.

Update...

All 10 snakes were safely retrieved by Char at 2pm EST and appear at this time no worse for wear from this ordeal. SYR got back to her at 5pm EST, refunded her shipping and has stated they will be paying the Animal Control fees. Walt of SYR has stated that he will attempt to find an alternative hub for her to ship out from. At this point and time I do not believe we will be giving UPS a third chance to screw this up, but I am leaving that decision up to Char.

We have not received a solid answer as to why this happened or why she can no longer ship out from the St. Joe hub (the hub that refused her package). I personally am starting to suspect that in truth their is no exemption for snakes on this account and that is why it was stopped twice. I have sent an email to Walt asking for details in writing as to why this happened and hopefully he gets back to me tomorrow. I will post what information he provides.

At this point and time I would have to personally discourage anyone from using this service to ship snakes. Keep in mind that UPS does accept the legged variety of reptile, so you should have little trouble using SYR's service for them. While every time we ship out an animal we are taking a risk, it is our responsibility to minimize that risk as best we can.

Until tomorrow... ;)

Can anyone tell I've cooled off? Hah hah.

Thanks for the update!

Glad they all made it ok, and glad SYR took responsibility for the error. I will be interested to see what kind of follow up there is. Please keep us posted!
