Win 1.2 hets for Sunkissed Cinder and help a great member of our community!

Yay!!! I'd donate more, but I've been using my paypal too much latley I guess, and have been instructed to lay off for awhile.. :uhoh:

I really wish I could buy more tickets but since we have a trip in less then three weeks to Parris Island to watch my boyfriends son graduate from bootcamp I am not able to. The suspense is really killing me though. LOL

wstphal I know I'm new here and I would love to donate but I sold some stuff specifically to get my first snake. I can chip one $5 donation but that is all. I would to be a candidate for your tickets :D! If I win I can make sure I have the money for shipping and proper care of course.

There were a couple new inquiries during the night- we must be getting close!!! Well, I doubt this will happen, but if we aren't there by Friday, I'll be able to buy more...

We are at 193 tickets sold as of this morning - only 7 left to go!!

For anyone who wanted/needed to wait until Friday.... I just got some bad news today - my appeal hearing for unemployment got postponed so I don't know when that is going to be now - so I don't know when/if I am going to even be getting any unemployment. There was another member here who had graciously offered another pair of awesome hatchlings for a 2nd raffle if I needed it and I may just have to take her up on that offer. I do have a job interview tomorrow - but even if I get the job, their training doesn't start until November so I am still going to be in dire straits for probably close to another month.
If there is any interest in another raffle - or if more people are still willing to help out - I may contact her about it. Part of me feels horrible about accepting all this help from you guys, but part of me just says swallow my pride and be grateful. I can tell you all this much - once things turn around for me - I am certainly more than willing to pay this kindness forward to the next person who needs help.

Well, there are going to be 199 non-winning tickets...Hopefully those people will want to console themselves by buying more chances! I will!!

You know, it really sucks that they keep postponing it. People who aren't getting unemployment, who don't have _any_ safety net, could be starving, losing their house, whatever. It's not fair...

Unemployment comes pretty much out of the pocket of the former employer. It's in their best interest to try to block that for as long as possible, because maybe the former employee will either get another job & stop asking, or give up and stop asking. I'm not saying it's right, but the system is really messed up. People think it's like a no-fault set up, where all employers pay into the fund based on the number of employees they have, and then that money (plus Federal money) is used to pay people who are unemployed. But it doesn't work that way so employers fight it. What's the point in laying someone off to reduce business expenses if you just end up paying their unemployment anyway? It doesn't help your business balance the books.

And to make matters worse, many people fired for CAUSE (like on-the-job drunkenness) get unemployment anyway. That makes employers mean & nasty, because it's coming out of the business's money, and the person really deserved to get fired. I have specific experience with this one. Employee came in visibly intoxicated and smelling like a distillery. Was fired for cause. Contested it & got unemployment which came out of the business I was working at at that time. Management was furious, and with good reason IMHO. Stuff like that makes management want to be mean on every case, whether that's the right answer or not.

So poor Katie is getting ground down by a system that is fundamentally unfair to unemployed workers and to small companies. I am really sorry, Katie. (((Katie)))

Thanks Betsy...
I completely understand why companies fight it, but this is ridiculous. Unemployment would be less than half of what my salary was so the company is still saving money. And in my particular case, I know I am in the right - although I don't know if I can "prove" it to unemployment.

Yeah, the way unemployment works kinda sucks. My Mom got fired from her last job... basically the administrator had a friend who wanted Mom's job so they cooked up some bull and cleared the position. My Mom was granted unemployment... the company made an appeal and now my Mom has to pay back the unemployment. :shrugs: I don't think that's very fair either... they ruled based on "new" evidence that had nothing to do with my Mom. It's just messed up.

Unemployment helps those who can get it, and that's good, but all the BS that goes with such things can be very annoying.

Good luck with everything, Katie and good luck with the job interview!! I'd certainly be up for another raffle. :)

Well, I double checked with the other person willing to donate snakes for another raffle and she is still willing to do so. I am going to wait until Carol's raffle is completed and then we will work on starting the next one.
Thanks for the interest and help everyone!
