It's time to vote for your favorite entries. There was only one entry for the digital manipulation category, so that won't have a poll open, and that person will be announced at the end of the contest and will receive their prize for their entry.

Post edited by Drizzt80 as the ""real"" voting is taking place in two newly created threads.

I was wondering the same. If those are the snake's natural markings, then color me impressed.

I would have completely missed that, if you guys hadn't pointed out the hearts. It is amazing how easy it is to look at something and not actually see it. I find that I do this with written headlines too( Thread titles and Google News headlines). My brain quickly interprets the words without reading the letters. Often I look back to see the headline said something completely different than I thought it did. A sign of getting old -- I guess.

What I find slightly disturbing is after all the high drama involved in getting these photo contests set up, there's only 5 entries total. What a bummer.

By all means, big thanks to those that did contribute!

Ditto. I was really bummed with the lack of entries. Especially since I thought the holiday one went pretty well.

Well yet again Brent, I didn't even know there was a competition going on!

I don't know what else we can do to advertise it. It was stickied at the top of the WIR for several weeks, and people were bumping it up so that when you clicked new posts, it showed up. Not addressing this directly at you, but as a broader problem then if people don't even know about it...

The way contests in the distant past were set up, photos were posted anonymously as received or sometimes people would just post their pics in a thread, these were not anonymous but they sure did get a lot more entries that way because the thread got bumped each time there was a new entry posted. It really seemed to generate more interest and participation that way. I guess we don't do it that way anymore because some people are opposed to doing it that way now. It's kind of a shame if you ask me. I have been around here a long time. Even the humorous "hairy arm photos" contest got many more entries than this new way we are doing these contests.
I too completely forgot about this contest. I browse the New Threads daily, that's how I do my catching up with what is going on in the forum, and simply did not see any threads about it. If it was bumped I missed it. So I forgot.
I get that people are worried about plagiarism of their ideas if the photos are made public before end of contest, but TBH if I had the idea to photograph a corn in a heart shaped box and then photo # 2 of this thread appeared, I would willingly vote for that picture if it was better than mine. And I am sure it would be. Not trying to dredge the drama back up, just pointing out the old way really seemed to work much better.

I feel you (big time)! I think it has little to do with "advertising" and more to do with people just aren't interested in it. Their has been how many posts that say we are having contests. There is a thread stickied that has all the dates for all the contests already listed. It's not like it's a huge surprise when it's being posted...That information is already available! :)

Prizes aren't "good enough" to be bothered with maybe? This contest has zero live animals offered (no complaints about the generous donations we received...Just an observation), maybe that's why?

We don't have the same crowd we did back in the day when contests used to be run and that might have something to do with it too. I dunno...Just throwing thoughts out there!

People also did not follow the posted rules and should have been told to correct their photos before their entry was excepted. I see 306w & 800w. Bit late now of course. ;)

Big thank you to those who participated and good luck! :D

With all due respect, the thread announcing the contest was stickied in the WIR thread. It was updated several times since first being announced and I personally saw the thread arise in New Posts several times. It was also listed in the WIR from two weeks ago. I guess I just don't buy the "I didn't know about it" excuse. Sorry for that, but if someone really wanted to participate in the photo contests, they'd find the way. Like Matthew already said, what more can be done to advertise it? Personally, I don't see the problem with pictures being entered anonymously. :shrugs:

Anyway, it's interesting that people (not me) try to set up a photo contest, other people complain about it, and hardly anyone enters it. Congrats to whoever wins. It is what it is I guess.

I know, for me, the reason I didn't enter is because I expect a lot of awesome pictures that I can't compete with (with my normal pics) and I just don't have time to do an all out photoshoot

I didn't enter as this contest's theme isn't one of my favorites and I would rather spend my efforts on a later contest.

And Elle, this is copied directly from the main Photo Contest thread stickied in your personal forum (it's located below the WIR author schedule and you know where that is, right? ;) ):
