Suggestions going from pinky to fuzzy

I've got an 08 I can't seem to get off pinky's. I can leave him with a peach fuzzy overnight and nothing, but two days later he'll scarf down 3 pinks no problem, any suggestions?:shrugs:

What I do sometimes to trick live eaters into eating f/t is feed them a live pinky first and then offer the f/t while they are still in feeding mode. Might this work for you also?

Have you tried skipping a feeding to get him really hungry?

I went from his five day schedule to ten, he refused the peach fuzzy so two days later I offered the pinks. I've done it this way the last four meals.

Have you tried shaving? I would do what Jen does. Start him eating with a pink and while he's "in the mode" sneak in a fuzzy. I have a Charcoal that was much the same way. The good news is she got better.

I have one that will eat fuzzies all day long, but refuses every time I try to get her to take a weanling...dunno if it's the hair or what! As she usually has 2 or 3 fuzzies per feeding, I'll try that "sneaking one in" trick...

No luck with the razor so I used Nair.

I'll use Carol's advise and let him get good and hungry then yours and Jens suggestion with the pinky first theory.

Thanx!

What about trying a live fuzzy? Fuzzy's still can't do much harm, if any, so the risk is minimal, and it may spark him into feeding larger prey, you could then switch back to f/t.

I'll offer one of my favorite solutions. Have you tried cutting the fuzzy in half??
I think I've followed Nanci's suggestion in the past with success, but I have a little king that gave me the hardest time. Rather than cut it in half, I just cut the legs off. He likes his meals on the smaller side. Good luck, Danny.

Well this worked, right up to the sneak in a fuzzy part. He gobbled up the pinky but wanted nothing to do with the fuzzy. Guess I'll try Nanci's slice and dice before going live.

Anybody want a 1.0 Dilute Anery Mot??;)

Hey Danny, did you try washing the fuzzies in warm soap and water first? Pinkies have little to no scent. I have snakes that object to one mouse but not to another even though they came from the same batch, go figure. I liken it to picking through a bag of Doritos for the ones with the most salty cheesy stuff on them only in reverse.:D And if you get frustrated send the little guy my way...

What colors have the fuzzy been? Sometimes they show a preference to a particular color. And just how much hair does the fuzzy have and what is the size of the fuzzy? What is the size of the pinks you've been using? Breeding my own mice gives me the opportunity to get in between sizes as well as finding runts (fuzzies that are smaller than large pinks). I also supplement from RodentPro and there is also a range of sizes in each bag, enabling me to move hatchings from one category to another without a dramatic change for the snake. Also, have you tried newborn rat pinks? Same size as many a fuzzy, but no hair.

All my feeders come from RP. I go from feeding a small pink to two then to peach fuzzies. The peach fuzzies are kind of tan, barely any hair and not much bigger than a pinky. I guess I could try the rat pink route if my last couple attempts with pf don't work.

Any chance genetics play a part in this or do you think it's personal preference. Only reason I ask, I purchased a pair 9 months ago, the female never ate and was dead in three weeks, now the males getting picky. Your thoughts?

I absolutely believe genetics plays a big role in eating behaviors. I have a female that produces good sized clutches that don't eat. I got her as part of an adult pair and the previous owner had the same issues. I changed partner this year in hopes of fixing the eating issues. We will see what happens and I'll keep you posted. I also have a female that produces tiny hatchlings that are voracious eaters. When discussing eating issues and genetics the early lines of Bloodreds come to mind. I have a pair I stopped breeding because they were such a pain to get feeding on anything but lizards. I often tell people that those babies taught me how to be lightening fast at skinning anoles. A skill I'm certain the world needs.
Good Luck Danny. I feel for you man.
Terri

I have a 2008 that was a poor feeder that had to go to snake rehab. I bought him after he graduated, and he is voracious now.

Thanx Terri and Nanci

Yeah Terri, I'd appreciate it if you'd post here again to keep me updated.
