A big pile of paradox

Snakes in designer genes
Paradox snakes are unusual and fairly rare - so it's not often you get to take group shots of them :)

I love that the tongues are multi-coloured too!

I love that from the farther away shots, their pupils look like downwards-pointing arrows! Too cool! :D

WOW!!!!!! That word describes it all.. Holy crap..!!! Their eyes are amazing, and their color beautiful, the tongue,... WOW, Just WOW!!!

I hate you, at the moment. At least until you decide to send one of these beauties my way. :D

Just kidding, I don't hate you. But they're GORGEOUS! I love their speckely little tongues!!!

Those are amazing! Do you think this is a genetic trait or just a fluke? If it's just a fluke, those are some very rare odds hatching out that many. Thanks for sharing!

Calico tongues!!! I didn't know you had those, I guess! Beautiful!

Thanks Nanci - but they're not mine, I was just asked to take some photos of them. I am not a boa person at all, but these are pretty interesting guys.

I don't know. I mean - the actual paradoxical colouring can't be genetic, as such (like, dominant/recessive). But the tendancy towards paradox colouring can be inherited - it is in sand boas. One male siring three paradoxes does seem very unlikely, unless it has an inherited component ... but we shall see once they're big enough for breeding trials to be done.

What people sometimes forget is that we can't really say that any given morph originates from a single gene... as the genetic passed on is in the form of chromosomes, each of which holds a multitude of genes. For all we know, all morphs are the product of several genes all sitting on the same chromosome, rather than just one gene- I think that the paradox is the result of a chromosome with the albino trait only that some melanin production was possible before it kicked in completely...

In short, we have barely begun to scratch the surface... it is however likely that if you breed paradoxes together, you raise your chances of seeing more of them... but there are no guarantees.
