My Gartersnake Ate!!

No- this isn't the wrong section! I can't think of a name for my new baby from Daytona! There is a long story behind him. First, I bought a bunch of raffle tickets at the Cornsnake Supper Club Dinner and Raffle. I put some in the box for the grand prize, a pied ball python. I won. I was overwhelmed. I know nothing about BPs and I didn't want to kill an out-of-egger. So I first had a nervous breakdown in Kathy Love's hotel room at midnight, (and she was very reassuring, as always) but then when I was moping around the show Sunday I ran into Don Soderberg who offered a solution. A trade for a 2010 M Tessera. I consulted with my friend and trusted advisor Zorro, and it was a deal! I'm sure both Don and I think we got the better end of the bargain- but I'm VERY happy with my new baby!! And I have heard Don is going to give the pied to a friend who has wanted one but could afford one about as easily as I could afford a Tessera! So we are all happy, and THANK YOU VERY MUCH DON SODERBERG for this wonderful opportunity.

Now if only I could come up with a fitting name...So Gartersnake has been prowling his shoebox in the baby rack since we arrived home yesterday. I fed all my hatchlings who had gone to Daytona tonight after they had de-stressed for a day. I thought what the heck- I'll see if Gartersnake will eat- he sure looks like he will!

And he did. Immediately.

He looks like his tail has been dinged! I didn't do it!! Ow. Poor baby. Instead of trying to escape the feeding container- and I have never seen a baby do this before- he went searching around, licking everything, looking for another pink, I guess! I had to pry him out and put him to bed, disappointed.

Thanks for looking!!

I think this trade worked out well for everyone! This little guy is gorgeous and a good eater too!

Well, I have another corn baby named Milksnake...But when they go on to become famous sires, don't you think Gartersnake and Milksnake will be confusing?? He's obsessed with his water bowl- I wonder if he ever had one big enough to get into!!

Yay Nanci!!! I get to have his brother as well, in a breeding loan with Don. Psssh, I get every other baby, when you get ALL of his babies! LUCKY!
But he really is gorgeous.
The striping on these guys is wider than the usual Tessera stripage, from a special project of Dons- you and I are the only two that have something from this lineage (I am pretty sure).
Grats Nanci- hope you are gonna start a progression thread on him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 2010 Okeetee from Don and she eats like a champ everytime. She's had small double pinks the last feedings. Never hesitates on the second one!

:dancer:

Gorgeous snakes, both of them! I would be frightened to try and feed either of them. I've read all over that balls can be hard to get started, and I'm currently stressing like you can't imagine trying to get a little baby non-feeder corn to eat. So far, he's having none of it. Every 5 days, we give it a try using different methods/suggestions, and never any luck. I spent last night in tears over it. I SO want the little one to live.... I'm not sure which one of those beauties of yours I would have preferred. I think you both got great deals! Congrats on your hungry little worm :).

Congrats on an awesome trade! I know you were worried about the ball python...so now you can to worry about a $1000 tessera! ;)

Hey- at least he eats!! Somehow, even though he is valuable, he's familiar. He's "just a cornsnake." I know what to do with him.

I'll never forget my first expensive cornsnake. It was Lily, the lavblood. I got her after the first price drop, but she was still the most expensive snake I'd ever bought. I didn't want to ship her during the holiday week, Thanksgiving, and Rich and I talked about shipping her the following week. I waited for a tracking number or further instructions. I came home from work Tuesday afternoon and there was a white box out in front of my gate, 15 feet from the busy county road. In the shade, at least. On the ground with the fireants. I flew out of my truck, grabbed the box, flew up to the house, unpacked her, and she was fine. I was so dismayed I left my keys in the door all night. I couldn't imagine why Rich would have just sent her without checking with me! Then a few days later I found the shipment notice in my spam e-mail folder...
