So, I thought it's time to introduce a project that I've really started this year, but had in mind since I got this male F2 from SMR Miami X Silverqueen:

I'm very deep into the bloodred morphs and always liked their baldy, grey heads when they hatch. Hence, because of the Bloodred influence, all non-anerythristic morphs loose that thing. This is where this line came to my mind - creating a line of corns that have this grey head until adultness. And which animals should qualifiy better than Miamis?

So, I bred this male back to the F1 of SMR Miami X Silverqueen and to a Silverqueen female. The pictures show my first hatchling from Mr. Greyhead X Silverqueen. I think there is more work to do, to really create completely grey heads. But I think the startup is quite impressive.

I already talked to Rich, telling me that, as I already expected, these baldy head influence came from his Silverqueen line. The interesting thing for me is to bring this into the Miamis, HypoMiamis and AneryMiamis as well. So, I'm not telling that this is a new super-duper Line that I invented and bred for years. I just wanted to share some project beginning with you.

That's very interesting, although my mind also finds it a bit odd. I'm accustomed to seeing the bald head on some bloodreds, but to see it on normally patterned corns will take a little getting used to!
 
It may (or may not!!) finally get some that think the bald head is an identifier of Bloodreds to realize it's not. :shrugs:

That's an interesting project. I've never heard of a line project that emphasized head-pattern. This one looks promising. It looks like the project is off to a great start-- those are great looking hatchlings.
 
Cool project. I think the gray head babies are so beautiful and that it's a shame that that goes away.

Interesting that you mention the Silver Queen lines. I have a ghost hatchling out of Rich's Silver Queen lines (bred by a 3rd party though), and her head pattern is a bit odd. She does have a head pattern, but then it looks like someone tried to blot it out while it was still wet, giving her a grey/purple head color.

Most of her head pattern is still there, but there could be something to work with in the Silver Queen lines. Perhaps Silver bloods or Silver queen het blood :eek:
 
Maybe you should quit thinking about Bloodred when you see that head pattern in SQ related animals. None of my animals is/was/will be Bloodred. :grin01:
I will show a few pictures on my adult Greyhead Miami male soon - I'm just currently moving... very stressfull while animals are hatching.
 
Interesting project. My ghost female has someting like that.its not the same, but is has something to do with the head pattern. She has a pattern, but it looks like it is vanishing or something. Its just much lighter than the rest of her body.

I've noticed that, particularly on my anery/ghost crew. Liam's is the strongest. For some reason, his head almost looks... pastel or diluted next to his body.
 
Nice! You should see the results I'm getting by breeding Silver Queen to Hypo Blood Red from the latest generation...... ;) Some of the Silver Queens can have nearly patternless abdomens as well, so this appears to be a really nice combo with Blood Red.

This is a interesting thread.
I did a okeetee motley project this year. I have about 6 of them come out with gray heads. Most of the gray heads are motleys except for 1.

The 1 normal gray head was dark like an anery as it was pipping

The very first one to hatch. As it was pipping I thought I had a bloodred.

Here is some pics of the clutch.

Pic #3 is a comparison body shot of a gray head motley & normal
Pic #4 in the center is a gray head normal. Just of his head poking out. I don't have any other clear pics of him.

Wow, it will take some time to get used to seeing such light heads on such colorful bodies but I must say that they are tempting.
