Funny call

People are eager to be offended. There is a difference between using a person's race to mock them, and using a person's race to make the story you are telling more descriptive.

tru dat double tru

I have an Asian buddy that's always reminding me that he's Asian, i didn't think i was color blind, but maybe since i treat him like the rest of my buddies...

now if i left out the fact that he was Asian, how would my story make any sense?
now i know that's not necessary in all stories, but how boring would the world be if we just wrote short concise non-descriptive sentences?

You know, take this how you want do David.
But, I as a snake owner, aquarium fish owner, and animal lover, have been known to eat fried rattle snake, as well as other animals... If I were really hankering for some fried rattle snake, you can bet, that I would go out and find myself a nice large one, as long as it isn't the protected ones, Kill it, and fry it up. Just like I would go out and catch a fish to eat. I have also been known to eat Alligator, and frog legs.

I completely understand the taking of wild animals to strengthen the blood of captive animals, and actually have a pet right now that is WC.

But to say that someone who kills animals is hurting the ecosystem, more than those who capture animals for the benefit of the captive populations, is rather harsh, and one sided in the train of thought area.

I am offended by this statement. ;)

I am offended by your offendedness.;)

I have been known to eat fried rattle snake.

Aaron, I have always wanted to try rattler, let me know next time you fry one up.

Now, should we get back on topic?
I received a funny call two nights ago
It was an automated call asking questions about how likely I am to vote in the next elections, the funny thing is was that it was in Spanish. Some of you may know that it just so happens that I speak Spanish, but what if my wife had answered the phone?
I chose not to respond to the survey, not because it was in Spanish, but because it is against my principals to respond to telephone calls in which I have no relationship to the person on the other line. I've been burned too many times by trying to be polite to some of these places, and even been asked if I was sure I was the man of the house when I told the person on the other line that at that time I was not in a posistion to donate to their cause.

I have in the past (over 10 yrs ago) made prank telephone calls. The best one was when I called a hiring line for a telephone surveying company and asked them to take a survey. The guy got mad and told me that I had no business calling them and he knew it was a prank. I responded by telling him he was a hypocrit for working for a place that did the very thing I was trying to get him to do. Calling someone a hypocrit ussually makes that person upset and to prove he was not a hypocrit, he said for me to give him the survey. I had to think fast and ask him some survey type questions, which I cannot recall at this moment and he answered them and the phone call was over.

Seems like a lot of threads of late seem to be turning into a mud slinging contest, its getting kinda old.

Why was it worth noting that they were a man or woman at all? Honestly some people are way too sensitive about some things...it does not make someone racist to say "a black man" nor does it make someone prejudiced against elderly people to say "an older woman".

Agreed.
However, I had more than just this single post in mind when replying. The OP expressed opinions which I consider discriminating towards women, towards people who are not strict Christians, and now this.

IMHO, it's an attempt to rile up a reaction, and it was planted for a purpose.

The gender of a person in a story is more relevant, IMHO, than the color of his skin.

I totally agree that there are groups and individuals who blame racial/gender/ethnic discrimination for every thing that doesn't work out for them or they don't like. In this case, it struck me the wrong way.

Getting offended I believe, is a part of life. We ought to learn how to handle things with some cander. Thing is our country had degenerated into such a sue happy, sensitive, politically correct, cespool that you have to look over your shoulder, whisper, or tip toe when speaking on contreversial matters. This no one's a loser "we are the world" type attitude that is so readily accepted now a days has weakened as a society.

Interesting conversation thread. But how is this gonna affect prices at the gas pump tomorrow???

Lighten up guys! There are better causes worth dying for. And being angry takes a lot of energy.

But Lavender (maybe striped lavender tesseras in your future?), I agree with you, but you should not purposely stir the pot. Why not just drop all the religious talk, and all the controversial stuff and just "be a guy" on here? It might be nice to see you just being you!

To many people to agree with. I am going to need more reputation. lol

I haven't got any funny call stories. My best friend has answered calls, with "Pork on a fork! How may I help you?" My uncle usually speaks jibberish to salesmen, and telemarketers.

TOTALLY agree!!!!!!!!!!!!

First off, claiming that a sentiment stemming from a wish to be considerate and tolerant towards the different is "weakness" is a notion which belongs to the third Reich.

The wish to be tolerant, respectful and not purposely hurt another is noble and honorable.
I daresay that living in Israel, fighting as a soldier and living in a challenging area(there are worse, granted) does give me some fiber of strength of character- I refuse to be lectured by a brainwashed provocateur.

I agree- yes, some do go overboard and take it to the extreme. But the fact that some people misinterpret or misuse something doesn't mean it's broken or evil.

Feel free to believe what you will, but the moment you try to jam it down people's throats, you are overstepping your boundaries.

Not a funny call but a funny door visit.

A Jehovah's witness rang the door bell waking me up, so i got downstairs and they said to me, we bring you God. I answered without thinking: Thanks, put him down next tot he stairs.

I do not have problems with someone's believes but if you wake me up, you're in problems. :dgrin:
Also they are officially a sect here so it's actually illegal. (i hope sect is the correct word, used google translate)

But don't you think people often use any number of physical characteristics to describe a person- the black guy, the short chick, the Asian guy, the really tall guy, the bald guy, the blonde, the old guy- just as a manner of being descriptive in speech? I do it all the time.

"Go talk to my boss, Skip." "I don't know who he is." Instead of me saying he's the tall guy with short hair, or the guy with the beard, or the 50-ish looking guy- if I say he's the black guy- that is the most descriptive feature he has. It is what it is- nothing to get all offended about if I observe that.

Now if Skip was standing there with a bunch of members of the transport team, who all happen to be black, I would have to say "He's the tall guy," or whatever.

Oh I do, but having it come from you is very different than from someone who is deliberately trying to rile people up.
Every post he makes, is made with all sorts of remarks to rise emotional responses.
If this was a single incident, you're dead on. But in this case, there's more to it as far as I am concerned.

Ah and as far as I am concerned, the rambling on that it "weakens our society" just proves, to me, that there's allot more weight to his "innocent remarks".

I definitely agree with you, very well said!
It is blatently obvious that the OP is set on stirring the pot, & it's working.
I have found the "ignore" function to be quite useful.
When someone proves to be intentionally causing problems, I do not want to get sucked into their crap. I just won't read it.
