Anyone coming to Daytona this year?

ArpeggioAngel

Around Here Somewhere....
The past two years I have helped to orchestrate a room block at a hotel in Daytona as well as our annual Cornsnake dinner/gathering/raffle.

With my new job, I have been a little slow this year in getting the process going again so I am hoping with a little help from my friends here we may be able to put this baby together again for this year.

Right now I am just throwing out "feelers" to see how many members may be coming down this year and if I should contact the hotel for a room block for us again?

Seriously? I'll be there! Have the whole two weeks off!! And the dinner arrangements last year seemed fine to me.

I will be there, and the old man, and possibly a friend of mine who just got her very first snake last August.

Wonderful! I will email our contact at the hotel and see about getting us a block of rooms again and determine what our prices will be for this year.

Katie, I can't do a whole lot from here, being in RI and all, but if you need me to send emails or make phone calls please let me know.
Had a total blast last year!!!!!

I am not 100% sure we will be there, but probably will be. Last year was the first time ever that we actually lost money (after expenses) at that show. So we haven't reserved tables yet this year. But we are thinking about renting only 1 table, and just doing photography related stuff this year. Maybe a change will be good. We will decide for sure over the next couple of months. I have a feeling that there will be tables left, considering how many people told me that they would not be back this year.

Kathy, I hope you end up coming. Meeting you last year was a HUGE thrill for me and had been on my bucket list for a decade! :)

We won't be there for sure. It was great to meet you guys and the dinner was fun...but the show was very dissapointed and we really scrimped and saved to go. Not again.
Sorry to miss everyone!

Ouch! Kathy, sorry to hear the show was a disappointment for you. I know we've driven home from shows before wishing we hadn't wasted our time. So I certainly know how you feel. Connie and I talked about getting a table at Daytona to just put out FaunaClassifieds flyers, but when I looked at the cost involved, it just wasn't even close to being worth doing that.

I don't think you would have a problem even showing up Saturday morning of the show and getting a table. I've heard that even some of the BIG names will be dropping out of the show. One of which had nearly an entire aisle last year. Based on how wide the aisles were between rows of tables last year, and the economy being like it is, I highly doubt Wayne will sell out the show.

We will probably drop in at the show for a day, but depends on the weather and circumstances. I have to admit that we did really enjoy last year not having to be stuck behind the tables all weekend. Finally had the time to REALLY talk with people.

Connie has been eyeballing a bed and breakfast on the mainland to stay at, so we'll see how that works out. Or we might just spend a few days in St. Augustine and just drive down Saturday or Sunday to haunt the show. The cool thing about retirement is that we really don't HAVE to plan things. :)

I know a lot of people last year were disappointed in the show itself...honestly, I was a little as well.
But after all these years, really, the reason I go back every year isn't the show - it is getting to spend time with some of my favorite people. The show is just the excuse for everyone to get together.

Between the big snake bans in Florida and the bad economy, the last two years the show has gotten smaller and smaller. I keep hoping it will pick back up as I would really really hate to see this show just disappear completely - but as long as it is there and as long as forum friends come down - I will be there every time!

I hear you. Although I covered expenses it wasn't by much. I had twice the tables (4 of them and an endcap to boot) in 2010 yet I made a lot more in 2009 with 2 tables...and I was competing with Rich Z retirement. Maybe 2009 was a better year overall, I don't know...but I do know that 2010 Daytona was not very good for me. Since that will be nearer my collection sell out deadline I may or may not grab a table. All depends on what happens between here and there.

True...but I must admit besides the social side of things it sure was fun to look over Rich Z's tables.....I really missed that this past year.

It was my first show, except for a herp club show I went to in the mid 90s that had maybe 15 vendors total. To me Daytona was HUGE!
But as much as I loved the show, I loved the people much more. I am afriad you all are stuck with me for as long as it goes on.

I never saw Rich Z's tables, but yours weren't exactly a slouch ya know!
I think I would have bought a ton more snakes if hubby wasn't there watching my every move. :)
