My First Hatchlings!

Jessicat

All Pied Everything
Yep, another "my first hatchlings" thread! I wasn't expecting these guys for another week, but I decided to take a phone picture for one of my friends who is recovering from neck surgery and can't check the internet.

Imagine my surprise when I saw little noses poking out of the eggs!!

EIK!!!! First little guy..

A few photos of him without flash.. he looks like a Butter!

I didn't want to use flash because he is very shy. S/he was out pretty far and I scared him back in.. so only these pictures survived. For some reason it looks like there is some orange in this picture, but in real life it is not there.

This one however... looks like daddy!!! :sidestep:

Out of focus, but.. my first egg tooth shot!

Okay, now I just need to take a step back, busy myself with setting their new homes up, and STOP CHECKING on them. It's easier said than done!

Oh cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'd better go check them again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'd better go check them again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I've been obsessively checking on them, and the only thing I've accomplished is scaring #1 back into his/her egg! Also I'm trying to think of a creative way to label them besides using #1 and A, #2 and B method like you! Eik!!! Maybe I should go with flowers? Tree types? Venemous snakes after Daddy? :p

I thought I had a week longer for all of this! Not that I'm complaining.. :p

OMGosh that one does look like daddy. I can't wait till he is all out.

I don't have a good fresh out of the egg shot of Copperhead, but here's what he looked like when I first got him..

So far the head and eye coloration looks pretty similar!

This makes the situation harder though.. if they all were Butters then everything would be fine, but now I'm all confused!

Congrats! It's fun, isn't it?

I can't believe I waited so long to breed! I mean I guess it was a good thing, I wanted to really be ready for it, but yes, it's SOOOO exciting!

Thanks guys! Man this is hard.. I have a feeling I'm going to need to completely get out of my house. I am totally obsessing over these guys!!

Last year I stayed up till 4 in the morning sitting as still as I can just to watch the first baby come all the way out.

Have you checked them recently? One might be out!!!

I am so lucky mine did most of the hatching during the work week or it would have been torture...

Awesome! I can't wait for mine to hatch, I'm on week 7 for one clutch and week 6 for the other, now I'm going to have to check mine more often.

Congrats on the pippies! Now to try to figure out the whys and wherefores as to what he really is, besides the most likely amel motley het butter resulting from either the mother being bred by another male, or a spontaneous mutation of one caramel gene back to the wild-type. It would be nice to pair him with a caramel known not het amel to see if all the offspring are caramels or not. That would be the way to possibly rule out a new genotype in the mix causing a homozygous amel caramel to not look like one.

WOOO HOO!!!!! Congrats on the Pippie!!!! Wow....Lord if your having trouble staying away from the hatching eggs...how will I ever manage?? LOL seriously...i've thought about a sleeping bag & pillow on the floor the final week of expected incubation....I've already asked the boss for that week off...LOL just so i can be with them....

The one looks Amel Het Butter (aka: (Buff)...:sidestep:

I knew SOMEONE woudln't be able to resist! :nyah:

Well guys, I can now at least confirm that Copperhead has one Motley gene and one Stripe gene! I made myself go out with a friend to ihop and a movie (half way though I got VERY restless), and THIS was waiting for me when I got home..

I didn't think Copperhead had a Stripe gene, so I didn't want to expect any Stripes. I'm delighted that I was wrong! Look at that cute tongue.

The daddy look alike is still judging weather or not the world is fit for him.

I'm trying my hardest to be patient!!!

Susan, at one point I had a great SMR Caramel Mot that Don said was most likley not het Amel, but she is no longer in my collection. I love Caramel Mots though, and I definitely would not mind adding another to my collection. Especially one of the ones I've seen Walter advertise as "Keys Caramel Mots". I LOVE the high silver look.

Anyway, it will be very interesting to see the ratio of Butters vs. "wierdos". So far the other noses pipping look Butter, but I can't tell for sure.

I'm just going to try to leave them alone for awhile longer. I'm SO EXCITED at the emergence of my beautiful little 6g Butter Stripe baby!
